Hello, I just got a 15' G-W and have a few questions!!!
What motor is a good choice for this boat?
I've talked to a few of my friends who have boats and have gotten a wide range of ideas, everything from 70hp-140hp.
What are you guys's thoughts?
Also is there anything tricks with these boats I should be aware of?
Like set backs, steering options, fuel tank placement, things of that nature!
I'm very new to boats, and would like to hear from people who have owned these!
I have a few friends who are extremely good with boats willing to help me with this, and they said to find people on here who have experience with these boats for tips & tricks!!!
Thanks
Bruno

Please post some pics!!! These boats are not very common in that length. Check out the one I am restoring in my signature. I will be powering it with the 1969 merc 1250 (125 hp) That it originally came with, it used to run in the low-mid 50's with a long shaft and no jack plate. I have since mounted the power head to a 15" mid and will be using a jack plate in the future, and turning a chopper of size yet to be determined. Welcome to Scream and Fly, you will find everything and more that you ever wanted to know about boats, old and new.

It is very rough, but a friend of mine gave it to me. He figured I'd have fun redoing it, then running it!
I have never really done anything with boats(always wanted to) I've always done cars & bikes!
So this is veery new to me!

I have a 1970 G.W. Invader looks similar to gw1250's but my cap is different.
I run a 1974 J block 150 with 4 inches of set back and up a tad ( gotta keep some secrets ;) ) last year it ran better than 77 on GPS. Keep weight low and to the back as much as you can. Laker on here has a buddy running one with a 140 OMC that runs real good too, might want to pick his brain.
Thanks for the compliment Matt

Thanks guys!
A friend of mine recomended a 85hp V-4, would that be too underpowered? My other friend said a 140hp X-flow?
And are these boats able to run with two bench seats (say 4 people two being kids)?

It would not be under powered for pleasure & skiing, but you'd never see 60 mph
2+2 should be fine, esp with 2 of them small

looks just like the one my dad picked up - gold metalflake - that transom was something else , we also raised it 4 "s @ its the one u guys are talkn about - with my old x-flow 140 great fun boat - it has dual ride guide steering - land & sea soild mounts & nose cone - cmc hyd jack - block is stock other than i rebuilt it a few years ago .020 over - he's turning a omc 27 soild hub race cleaver about 6500 rpm if ya push him - lol - but he doesnt like turning it over 6 - i think he's thinking of selling it - transom could use some glass work but still solid - gotta love the sound of that thing when he cracks it open  - id like to see a 175 fast strike or intruder on it - but that 140 rocks pretty good

A light weight option would be a 3 cyclinder omc. Wingnut had one that pushed some hp and was light. Rick

but I think Bruno is new to this---Looks like the hull was built with a transom for a 15" motor (yah, back then, 20" was a long shaft). Assuming it will have a 20" on it now, needs a serious and seriously strong transom buildup.
By the way, Bruno, looks like the new post worked.

Yes it did, thanks for the advice!
Yeah we are gonna redo the transom, so I can use a 20" shaft.
What's a good height? I was thinking of running a 4-6" jack plate on it, is that a good idea?

Value depends on condition, location and time of year. After frost, away from big water ... give away
Hamilton Bermuda or Iowa?

How can you tell between that two so easily without measurements? Ive looked at pictures of both and cant really tell the difference. Pictures were in a sales brochure so it wasnt a very good visual source.

By the seating configuration. The 14 had front buckets with a back bench, the 15 ( which is actually 15'1 " ) had back to back buckets.
Grew up near a Marina that was a dealer of the Invader ( Rever's Marina) Rockford. Ill.

Here's a brochure, not sure what year. I knew guys who had two different models back in the late '60's to mid-'70's. I started to post something I thought I remembered, but I had it hosed up; the 15 in the brochure looks like spec's boat. Has a lifting hull and more depth. I knew a guy who raced one in a small dragboat circuit back then in the area (OH) with a Merc 1100 and did quite well. The 14 in the brochure is very different, almost like a stretch version of the 10'. Very flat, spanked the water, I always knew when he passed our cottage, didn't even have to look.
That is a 14 and what was said about the seating is correct. I purchased a 14 not nearly that condition with a 50hp and trailer for 450.00, same seating. I also have a 15 and the 15 came with back to back seats at least in 1972. as the I have also seen single seat 15's that were race boats when I was a kid. The 14 is about i1inch narrower.

I have been researching these boats for some time. A friend of mine had one more years ago then I care to admit, and I remember that he used to reconfigure the seating at will. The bench in the front, and the two buckets in the back or vice versa. So I'm not convinced that the seating configuration is the key. I was under the impression that that it was the gunwale configuration. Take a look at the two enclosed pictures. The blue 14' has the open gunwale. The green 15' has the closed gunwale. Am I wrong?

A friend had one in "72-73 with a 15" 50 Johnson looper. Ran low 50s with a 2 blade 23" OMC aluminum prop (best we could do). A blast in a straight line, but would beat the salt off a cracker if you hit any waves at speed. Wouldn't turn around in a 10 acre field. We slid it up on the beach once! All in all, it's a wonder no one got hurt in it, but we didn't know any better!
I always thought the v-bottom GW looked suspiciously like and Allison........

Hi , does anyone know what this is? I found it glued to the upper deck behind the steering helm of my 14 ft Gw invader . It is hardly legible436766 but if someone else has one maybe it can be read. My title says it's a 1972 but I think it's a little older.I took a photo so you can blow it up and maybe help me with this I.D. This boat has no Balsa core and feels pretty lite. It has original transom thats mint. No other no#s anywhere in the boat, just this paper under some resin . Afraid to touch it for fear of it disintegrating

Looks like a build sheet. Specs colors & rigging & options for the assembly line. Couldn't make out any of the info in the blanks.....specs out layup also.
After looking again , not sure there is any info written on it.
