In the same boat as you, building a backseat for my Challenger.

use the divinycell and make some "stringers" on the long flat sections. it'll be light enough that you will need to strap it down to keep from blowing out. :D

I bought mine with a "custom" back seat. It weighted a ton! But it had light weight plastic Allison style buckets in front. Totally unbalanced the boat so it porposed! Weight distribution is very important. Make it as light as possible. Most back benches are two peices of wood with padding.

The back seat in my boat is HEAVY. or I am WEAK!!

I want to ditch it and the sun pad in favor of a lightweight race hatch some day.

enough to hold 2x 105 lbs:thumbsup:

p.s. add 2x .5lbs for t-backs in case they are still on.;)

the one in the shadow is very heavy as well, I had to use loader to lift and install it, I was thinking I should have built a new one as well, but that was after I had it recovered

Mine is glass, (part of the boat), and the only "extra weight" is the cushions

Well if they don't like it they can stay on the hill. LOL boat runs faster without them in it anyway.

the original seat that came in my v-king was wood and heavy. Used a hole saw and cut some lightening holes where i thought i could get some weight out, but not compromise the seats strength too much. May have cut the seats weight by 30%. A good material to use for seats that require staples is the lite wt. starboard matl. Wont rot and holds staples well.... Just an option i had not seen listed...P.S. use a short pilot bit in the hole saw!

The frame for my rear bench is made from that starboard-type material. Pretty lightweight. Even with a very thick padding, the whole bench might way 50 lbs or so maybe less. It's just awkward to carry but not too heavy to lift into the boat by myself.
