bought a mirage lately and was wondering what prop to run on it? Heavy lay up four seated. Running bobs low water pickup with a stock 200 merc. Probably go with an 8 inch jack plate. Thanks.

What rpm is the limiter on the motor and what gear ratio?

1.87 gears. No limiter got it cut out.I want to turn around 6800 to 7500 rpm. Prefer the higher number. Just bought a 30p cleaver with a mazco cut. 14" diameter to start off with. What runs best on them?

For all around performance, I prefer an ET cut. A 28p ET should get you into the low 7k range. Cleaver.........great top end prop and that's where it ends. Choppers and other round ear props tend to have more bow lift. Although they offer decent performance, my best advice is to avoid bow lifting props with a Mirage.;) Stick with an ET or Yamaha style prop and you'll be very happy.

A buddy of mine is running a 3 seater marige with a 15in mid and a sportmaster with a 200 2.5 carb motor i think 8in setback and last weekend with a 14.5 x32 cleaver he ran 110.7 very inpressive for sure but we all saw the gps and he was trucking runs very well but his boat is a fairly light layup. Dam. That's fast. I am hoping by the end of next month I will see some water fly beside mine. Slowly but surely it will happen. Waiting on parts and constently reieving more. Thanks for all the help guys and thanks SnF.

stock 200, why do you want run it up so high? the lower number rpm you stated is already just out of the power band. you could be faster and have an engine that lasts longer if you prop it to not exceed the 6800 area.

I am building it to run at max 8000. I want good bottom end along with top end. It will last just as long as my last one and I was spinning that one 7800 on a hydrostream comp hull. Never blew that one up till after I sold it when the guy ran a smaller prop on it. But I will be satisfied with a smooth riding boat that can fly in the 90's. Thanks for the conserns. And if I remember, two strokes keep pulling through all rpm. Over 8000 rpm., the pistons flutter and blow up. Thanks. Eric B.

then its not stock is it. if you are running cast pistons it wont last as long as you think, plus if it does go, it goes in a bad way.
two strokes will wind up real high but they arent makin any power unless they are ported to do so, thus higher ports=higher horse power and higher rpm. its a well known fact around here that if you are over spinnin that motor you need to prop it up and you could even see more speed. ask around

True. Mine won't be all stock but stock ports, crank, reeds and carbs. Putting a 2.4 tuner and some pro marine pistons. Don't know to much about the pistons. Well, hope fir my sake it stays in one piece. Look back in about month to a month and a half and find out if it explodes or flys. Ha ha. Thanks for the help though. I am keeping all this in mind trust me. Eric B.
