to make a long story short!! I have a 78 cvx-20. Used my friends garage to pull the old motor out. here comes my major problem. Have a new motor for it. its been in the back of my truck for a month now. My buddy wont answer the phone or get back to me!! prob. #2 while the motor was out i rebuilt the jet and pulled the thru hull exhaust and found bad wood rot on the drivers side. I have no idea how to take care of or fix this problem. Is their anyone in my area or close that can help me in any way? ANYONE PLZ!! thanks for reading

Not exactly near by but George at ARSMARINE.COM does good restoration work, such as transom replacement, stringer replacement, fiberglass, etc.
He also does great engine and pump work. Check him out.

gonna add a little more since i was trying to get to class. Like i said i live in the middle of PA. I would love to take it to St. Louis but i dont think i can get their. Money maybe an issue also. Like i said i have very limited money to get this done because i didnt budget any money what so ever to do this. Was kinda unexpected (figures). Damn Murphy's Law. Im trying like hell to find someone that can help me even though i know it is a difficult thing to ask someone for but i am out of options at this point.. thanks again for the response and it you can think of anything plz let me know.. i will post some pics when i get to my home computer.

welcome cvx,you have a classic. If I were you,I'd go online to West Systems,do the search, and you will find a great titorial to fix it yourself! There are many experts here, too, all who have been there done that, and you'll have no problem doing it yourself!S&F is a great site with all kinds of help and info to do ANYTHING!Enjoy!!

There is a guy by the name of Skip that has a small shop in Philly. He did the transom on my Glastron years ago. He did a good job and was very reasonable.

thanks all for the information and keep any suggestions handy. My problem really isnt the capability to be able to do the work, its the means of equipment and building to do it. I dont have a garage to do this in this is my MAJOR problem at the moment, nor to i have any kinda of a hoist to get my motor in then.. yeah it sucks!! gotta love the x that takes everything you owned and then some!! the transom is the bad part. The floor had been replaced and i am praying that the stringers are still fine, they appear to be but there is alot of glass on them to know for sure.. gonna add some pics. to show. the picture will show the thru hull exhaust on drivers side.

well you do have a good point. Winter time though. Umm i guess im an unsure of how to begin and where to start. that would be my other main problem, well besides all the others i listed. Just looking for someone that did similar and can "hold my hand and guide me". figuratively speaking that is..lol..

if u are having any rotting problems all of the boats that me and my cuz and my dad do we put a composite material that never rots or rust or any thing once that is done u never have to worry about it again (it aint soild fiber glass eather, it is a gel that dries harder than steel and lighter than hell) good luck :)
