Ok, am at a total loss! took the boat out this morning for the first time this year. Water was pretty cold but just had to take advantage of the sunshine.... Backed her in, lowered the trim, primed and started no problems...... let it idle, maybe 7-8 minutes ( it was still pretty cold out) then when getting ready to blast off I lowered the trim the last inch or so and she died! "No problem" I thought, but when I tried the key I got nothing! no click, no clunk no nothin! Guages all working, primer working, tilt obviously working.... I thought maybe something with the shifter? nope, tried shifting in and out of gear and back to neutral still nothing? brought her home jumped the selenoid, and it cranks but not with the key. does this sound like safety switch or ignition switch? from what i have read I think maybe...LOL but hate to throw money at it if i dont have to.

Yeah, forgot to mention that.....fuse was fine. After posting I droped the lowr pan to see if anything had come un done, or gotten pinched where it might have shorted, Nothing! swapped selenoids for the hell of it and no luck there either... without digging out the serice manual, I cant rememebr how to take the switch diconnect out of the loop? is it the black with yellow wire? would that tell me if its the switch? or maybe the safety switch?

Take the two yellow/red wires from the nuetral safety switch and jump them together and try it. If it cranks, bad nuetral safety switch. If it don't, cross the yellow/red and red wires at the switch. If it cranks, bad switch. If it still don't crank, possibly a bad wire harness..... check it at the plug at the motor.......

LOL As far as switches go are most ignition switches the same? I'm pretty sure mine has six lugs? but will have to climb under the dash an take a look

The primer wouldn't work if it was blown.
You need a volt meter or test light and some one to turn the key so you can check it. Check your connections also.

Yes, you are both right. I forgot that it will still spin without the lanyard and the fact that the primer, gauges or trim would not work if it was the fuse. Has to be ign switch or neutral safety

well it looks like I'm down to the ignition switch. I swapped out the neutral safety switch yesterday and checked and cleaned all the power connections. No luck! couldnt get a hand that early in the morning to help with the volt meter tests....so I guess it'll have to wait till Friday when I get some free time. going to order a new ignition switch just in case! hate to narow it down to that and then have to wait for it to get here while everyone one else is on the water!! LOL thanks guys! as always your help was much needed and appreciated! Will post the final results at the end of the week.
