140 Johnson purchase

Looking into buying another 140 Johnson and just tinker with it, rebuild and some minor mods :D...this local guy at a marine shop has a 140 dont know the year he said somewhere in the 80's...he said it is complete motor (weak cylinder) with lower unit minus a couple electronics...he wants $350 does this sound like a good deal ?? thanks in advance

If it isn't salty, the lower unit, and trim should be worth that much.

What year? Sometimes you find a deal. I have a '79 140 I paid $400 for and it is a beautiful runner. Post the model number and I or some one can tell you the year.

The 140's up through 1984 were crossflows. After that they were loopers. Big difference depending on the year.

alright i am going to look at it later this week all i have done so far is talk to them on the phone...i'll post back....thanks beefkid but just looking for one to tear apart and rebuild i have a good running one on the boat to use ...
