Is anybody else timing out when you click on links on here? Sometimes it works and sometimes I lose my connection and it times out. I have cable internet. Any programs that I can check what else is running from start up that may slow me down?

Open the hard drive and remove all the wool wrapped around the disc.

Is the machine running slow overall? Do you do any maintenance? What type of machine, processor speed, RAM, operating system, etc? Lots of stuff you can do to increase performance, providing it's not an OMC:leaving:

Start with the basics.

Go to the START button menu
programs
accessories
system tools
disk cleanup
A window will open asking if you want to clean drive C, click OK
Check the boxes for:
Temporary internet files
temporary files
offline web pages
click OK
It will prompt you "do you want to perform these actions" click yes
Close disk cleanup
Back to the Start menu, again go to system tools, to disk defragmenter, and run that program

Those are the 2 most basic maintenance operations to improve performance, there are many more also. Try that first, if no improvement, refer to Joe's instrutions above:D

It is better. Is adware any better than windows defender? According to defender there is no spyware found but I dont know how thorough it is.

I've not used defender, but I've heard it's pretty good, you can still run Adaware, just do a scan with it to see if it turns up anything, probably don't need the active scan program. You can try deleting cookies, I've seen that help with speed in a few cases.
