I am installing the lower seals and need to know if they go lips up, lips down, lips opposed or what? I was told they should oppose each other but the ones I took out were lip down; that seems wrong. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

This was from Talon:
"two seals in the bottom end cap with the flat metal part of the seal facing up toward the crank, both seals stacked one on top of the other"
Ya, I know it seems wrong, but thats the way mine came out too.

That’s correct. They are only to keep water out. The crank rings do the other sealing.

Thats the way they came out, looking like they were backwards for sealing fuel in. But for sealing water out they would be correct. Thankyou all so very very much; now I can finish the powerhead tonight although my 6 year old wants equal time put in on the go-cart I am building for him. Looks to be a late night; now if I can just find the thread on squaring the motor with the transom on Vectors::::::::
Thanks again

You can kill two birds with one stone by installing the Merc on the go-cart. That way it will be ok to work on it tonight if its part of the project.

us1 I like that thinking. Nelson if you have grooves on the SS sleeve you can adjust where the seals ride. You can even put in 3 seals! pack some grease in between when installing.

I agree with Jeff G.
I used 3 on the one I did last week - all facing lips down. Doing that makes the wear spots hit differently too.
It made perfect sence.
