I woke up and read -30 on the thermometer just outside my bedroom at 6:30 this morning. That is a few inches from the house.
A jug of -25 windshield washer fluid in the bed of my pickup still was about 30 percent ice at noon. The temp was -4 degrees by then.
The black lab that can stand almost anything had been moved to the living room by 3 am.

This was yesterday morning...

And I had two pipes in an outside wall freeze up - one not bad, no leaks, the other burst. My house is 25+ years old, these were original copper lines and it's never happened before!

Was 23-23 degrees Fri. morning, but i think it's 34 this morning... 20-22 is about as cold as it gets here on average from year to year, on some occasion it will get below 20 but not very often... Some of the temps that You Guy's are posting are really stout... The coldest temp that I have ever felt in My life was about -20 fahr, but that was in a big commercial freezer and that's obviously without windchill other than the breeze that the circulating fans created... I will say this, I did that in the summertime when I was used to working outside in 90++ temps in additon to being a little sweaty when I walked in wearing a t-shirt and jeans... A few minutes of that was a definite shock to the system... You Guy's up North really do deserve Your summertimes when it comes around...
makes the 6 degrees I saw this morning seem like summertime, thankfully there is no wind.
Everything gets cranky when its this cold out, my yard tug barely pumps fuel and I have to wait for it to warm up before I can shift gears, and even with the Ford pickup running for 10 minutes its still not all that warm when you get in it.
That is dangerous cold, I would hate to be out on that snowmobile and have the heat crap out on it. Does the heat come from the engine or does it have electric heaters?

Heat on a snow machine is like ac on a motorcycle.......but yes some sleds have radators under the seat and running boards All come with heated grips so your fingers don't freeze.....what I can tell yea is if you ride one like a Scream and Fly'r it's pretty good odds that the cold won't bother you much..most of your riding is done on the sides of the seat with the throttle clamped to the bars......think of it as wrestleing a 550 lb (min) monster by the ears though the trees at 75 mph..when you get out in the open and he breaks into a run you kinda sit back and smile until the next set of trees comes at you at over 100mph....well at least thats me :D

Oh and did i mention that there's always another sled in the miidle of the trail going in the oposite direction who's doing the same thing...best you can hope for is to not meet in the corners and alot of trails are less than 20 feet wide unless your on a main or coridor trail

I haven't seen anything above zero farenheit daytime as well most of the week. Was -30 at 8pm last night here forget just early mornings. -37 at 6am and just a little further North of me it was -41 ith 2mph wind thank god.
One of my vehicles had repairs done last summer and my mechanic mixed the coolant a little too lean. 50-50% mix is good to -37 so guess what happened to my rad and hoses. Froze to a hard gel substance and took me 3hours at -33 to get it thawed and going again.
