View Full Version : Wiseco locator pin problem

The locator pin came out on one of my Wisecos.

After wrecking havoc with the piston top and cylinder head and cracking the sleeve when getting stuck in the finger port, it settled in the piston top.

Considering that I have another five Wisecos in that engine, what do I do?

1. Over bore and get stock OD pistons?
2. Modify the Wisecos somehow, so that the pins stay?
3. Get some new Wisecos in case they have solved the problem?

What warranty policy does Wiseco have?

1. Can I send them the piston and get a new one?
2. Can I get six new pistons?
3. Do they pay the cost of repair when their product is faulty?

The engine, by the way, is a Yamaha V6 with 25 hours since the rebuild with Wisecos. It has not seen more than 6700 rpms. The pistons have been drilled slightly cut.

You can have those pins "pinned" or "swaged" so that they won't come out. Not sure how many shops do this and I know from reading this board that different ways of doing it seem possible. I think US1 and Jay Smith both might do it.

Jay stakes them in place. John removes them and drills down from the piston top through the lands, presses a pin in, and welds the hole at the top up again. I guess having the ring gaps lined up doesn't hurt. Talk to both and take your pick.s

john has done piston for us and has a set now being top pinned. as he says this is the only way to be sure that the pins will not come out. we lost another engine this weekend and felt that it may have been cuz of pins migrating. more info in a few days.
anyway we have not tried staking the pins but i know that we have not lost any pins in excess of 9500rpms to date.
e-mail us-1 he can hook you up

Turned out that several pistons had burns on the side, so I am going with a set of OD Yamaha pistons anyway...

Thanks for the info, guys.
