Took the carpet out of my xr 2002, trying to decide on painting it with awlgrip or something that may work better, Gellcoat, or a coat of resen to make the wood shine although the floor isnt really nice looking. Your input would be appriciated.

I'm thinking of doing mine with non skid deck paint. I found some at

I`m old fashion and like the gel look with drops, spider web or streaks of a highlight color. And, Nothing will last as long as gel coat. Just brush it in like i`m going to do my HST next week.

Have you done gel with a brush before? Sounds like what I want to do with the webbing. I'm like wild bill, I don't know what will work and look best. Post us up some pics if you would please, I'd like to see how it turns out for you.

I use a brush for the gelcoat. For the webbing I just use my fingers. Wear a glove and splatter the gel or paint with your fingers.

Going to do my hst also with gel. Which part are you going to gel? I think about doing mine from bow to stern.

How did you do the splatters? With a brush?

YEs with a 2" brush... I did find out, when flinging the splatter hold the brush flat ( _ ) parrallel w/ the floor not ( l ) vetical... bigger the brush more area you will cover smaller the brush more control you will have... Find your happy middle... LOOK in the lower right corner of the last picture, see the X in the splatter... thats with the brush vertical... no good!!!

Did you apply the webbing while the gel was still wet? That floor looks great! Did you apply the gel on the floor with something like a foam roller or brush ?

First two coats of blue were brush roller, third last coat w/ foam roller (for smoothest finish) * I also added sand grit to the blue, this is diffently a must... wet feet-slick floor = you on your ase!!!! I added 8 oz of sand grit to 1 qt of base color... cant see it but you can feel it, and yes third and final coat was wet when I applied splatter, was kinda thinking it would bond better...

Thats one bad boy floor you made there. Thanks for the info. I'm leaning hard on going that route with mine.
