January 10 Presentation: "THE FUTURE OF MIAMI MARINE STADIUM"
A Seminar presented by Dade Heritage Trust & Friends of Marine Stadium
Where: City of Miami Rowing Club, right next to the Marine Stadium, 3601 Rickenbacker Causeway, Virginia Key
When: Saturday, January 10, 2009, 9:30 AM-1:30 PM
Activities:
9:30 AM-10:00 AM-Coffee and Bagels; meet and mingle
10:00 AM-11:00 AM-Presentation and panel discussion "Next Steps and Challenges For Restoration & Use of Marine Stadium"
11:00 AM-11:30 AM Break; and Chinese Dragon Boat race
11:30 AM-12:30 PM Event promoters and organizations discuss their plans for programming and events at the Marine Stadium
12:30-1:30 PM- The Miami Dragon Boat Club will provide water tours of the Marine Stadium by Chinese Dragon Boat
Tickets: Event is free for members of Dade Heritage Trust and Friends of Marine Stadium
$10 for non-members
(Our last event sold out; we highly recommend reservations and arriving early for a good seat! Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.)

what is a chineese dragon boat? so this sounds like the approval has been given to restore the stadium? i remember seeing something a while back, but haven't seen anything else until now. could a link be posted to the previous threads? the history of this landmark is quite impressive, starting from the cuban born architect. thanks, fun out :thumbsup:

Dragon boats are a festival rowing team boat thing ... Its a modern yuppie thing to be on a dragon boat team ... they probably outnumber APBA about 10:1 right now.

thanks John, umm, I mean Mr Sherlock. all this info in one place :thumbsup: I cut my teeth there in 77 in a hydrostream copy "17' Hurst" n a 175 Black Max chasin jersey speed skiffs thru turns and passin um down the straights, saw the Unlimiteds a few times, met John Crouse in the pits and was invited to his home, Rocky Aokie, Telly Savalas :smiletest: and only hope to see another race there someday. i may do the drive for sat. my parents live in Cutler Ridge, so a bed is a given. thanks for the great info. fun out :D

I had to put another 1800.00 in my peterbilt this week keeping me close to home. any pictures? what is vintage racing? are there any firm plans for races in the near future? thanks, Keith

I thought it was already approved to fix it a while ago... weird... Leave it too a bunch of retards in office who know nothing about the sport to destroy it's heritage...

I can see a ton of "transient" yachters making it a destination. not the deralict bums on un-powered hulls I'm afraid you may be referring to but true cruisers stopping of for a bit on the way to the islands or keys. let us know more, some of my best chance meetings of great people were yachtsmen in transit to distant harbors. fun out :cheers:
