Aren't all of the Hyundais made in Korea?

They built a huge state of the art plant in Alabama about four yrs ago as did Mercedes and I think another major company. I've followed their progress for yrs and like Nissan they laid it all on the line, nearly going under doing so, to have great long term growth!

One thing I recall, about ten yrs ago, when they were nearly bankrupt, was that their workers worked in their factories which were only heated to 40 degrees. Their workers knew they had to do without in order to survive!
Reminds me of a job I had once, the building had just about the same temps in the winter.

Everybody laughed at the Koreans at first. They didn't learn from having their feet shoved in their mouths when they laughed at the first Jap cars. Now the Koreans are coming on strong and the quality is very high. Something else to remember is that none of the domestics would have these 100,000 mile warranties if it wasn't for Kia and Hyundai.

Scale the cost of living and their wages 17-$21 a hour I believe, and you see they pay well!

They have been getting pretty good reviews, and I am sure the resale value will be really low. A used Genesis will probably be a terrific deal in 2012...

I think resale depends on quality, if after three yrs of good durability it would bring a good resale. Folks follow that stuff today, esp. with repair rates at about $90 a hr!

So they ship all the parts over here to have our guys assemble it. then they can pass it off as "built in America" so Americans can buy them guilt free. REAL Americans are smart enough to know s**t from shinola. :D The current economic conditions are a conglomeration of these jap buyin, livin above their means via credit and havin too many kids people. You reap what you sowe, so keep buyin jap crap and enjoy the depresssion.

the hyundai LOOKS nice

buy American!!!!!!!

yup , im driving a ford , and before that a bunch of GM cars

we need to slowly stop letting so many foreign products into this country , we need to start making our own products . cars , electronics etc , etc

otherwise we are just a bunch of middle men selling other peoples products . with that it is only a matter of time before everything goes to hell and we are living in a depression

I think Raceman and others pointed out that some American cars have more foriegn parts then do the American plants of Honda, Toyota and others?

Problem is the corperate taxes, local, and state taxes, work rules!

Change that and you will not have to worry near as much from the foreign companies. Why should we not put the blame in order of it's effect on the American worker????

Buy American doesn't help the fact that we have the second highest taxes in the world!!!

Ah, but then Washington couldn't steal all our $$$$$$$$$$$$$!

Remember, I've stated often that I pay well over 7K property taxes, about 14% (Total) state tax, 7% sales tax. While my sister in Alabama pays under $400 property tax for a bigger house and more land!

Most would **** their pants if they knew how many parts are not from North America on the big 3. I own a Suburban, Dodge caravan and a honda civic plus all are near or over 160k miles. Only one nothing broken cosmeticly is the Honda. I will be in the market for a small or mid sized car soon in the new year but not sure what to get. I won't buy crap just because it's supposedly American made. And FORD cars will not ever get near my house ever again in my lifetime. ;) So we will see in the near future.

Hyundai as some mentioned almost went bankrupt but rplaced their R&D and administration. Guess what, they have some of the most reliable fleet on the market. Now if we can do that here by improving what we have that would work out great for us. Oh, and can someone explain to me why Chrysler has some of the best designed cars (looks) but they keep being a faillure mechanic wise?????????

Chrysler has hot looking cars, how the hell they dropped the ball on the PT cruiser is beyound me!!! Same with the mini van, short term profit I guess. Now they have that roaster? looks great but i'm sure they will milk it out as they that twice as long to up-dated, too put it lightly!

Oh, why?

"And FORD cars will not ever get near my house ever again in my lifetime.'

A co-worker called their headquater with two wallet complants to which all he got was something in the line of "Get Over It".

Complant #1 was why did your dealer charge me $300 to replace a headlight cover that you glued on, in only three places. it feel off while he was driving.

#2 your dealer changed my head gasket afyer only 40K, wouldn't pay- 4K over Ford turned down the request to pay. He drove it for five mins, overheated, brought it back, called Ford I think they only paid their costs, still costs him 1K. that's 3K for a head gasket which is said by every local mach to be due to there bolting patern, it's not good enough, or maybe it is as it's said to nearly always last past their warrenty!
Funny the first time i jheard this was on the "Car Doctor" radio show, he said they were, the big three, trying to take him off the air for stating such facts, they did get him taking off the air!

That market segment is toast.Hyundai is getting in a little to late on that one.Hyundais resale value is in the tank and will not be out anytime soon. The last 2 years Hyundai has been coming on strong but I will think that they will be squeezed out in whatever their market share they have gained and actually go backwards. They did buy Kia which should be usefull in the next few years.

I thought Hyundai had a pretty large shipping and heavy equipment operation, personally I dont care how they dress those crap pails up they are still a hyundai.

maybe they should come out with a different line of cars and sell them under that name, like what the other jap companies did.

When my wife's lease is up I hope there is a domestic car left to get next.

I would keep them in mind if I got a sedan but I always crunch all the #s. I got my Lexus 300 SUV about 3.5 yrs ago, 50K miles, $23K, and only had to put in two Ox sensors and a hatch piston over 80K miles. total cost was about $1K. From what I hear is the Ox sensors are about the other thing to go, up to about 200K miles.

Im a Hyundai forklift dealer and can say there construction equipment are comprable to any product of equal size and capacity and usually at a cheaper price. Believe me when I tell you only the name "Hyundai" is from S. Korea. The engine and drive train were japanese until recentley. Only the frame is built by Hyundai. In fact most forklifts built today have been touched in one way another by a foreign manufacture. In fact Catapillar lift trucks run Mitzsubishi gas engines for years. The Lp gas powered Toyotas of 8000 lb or more run 4.3 Chevrolet motors believe it or not. Hyster and Yale run the same 4.3 engine. The smaller Toyotas run there own 4y engine while Yale runs a mazda engine. Hyster runs a small Chevrolet motor as well

Id be willing to bet that if the truth was known, we all would be absurbley surprised of just how many foreign parts are in our domestic automakers products

Buying American these days is just about impossible unless your talking about the assembly process.

I drive an American truck and an 08 accord. I went for a ride in a buddy's Hyundai Genesis and I'll be getting rid of the accord soon. The 08 accord is the loudest car that I have ever owned (bar none). The road noise is rediculous. I have had it back to the shop 5 times and they finally told me that many people have been complaining about the cabin noise. The genesis will do to Lexus what Lexus did to Mercedes. The car is awesome.

people still wont get over the image of a hyundai.

compare the hyundai to a Acura, not a Accord. Im willing to bet money that the genesis will never take a major share from anyone unless they come out with a different brand name- at least not in this country.

Be different if they were selling them under $30k, but when you are spending the same money as a Infiniti, Lexus, Cadillac or Lincoln- which would you rather drive and have the resale benefit as well?

Here in Canada it's the same, can't see a Hyundai taking a big share of the market. They are great economy cars and very reliable, trust me they done great with the Accent in our harsh climate. But bottom line, they are seen as an economy car and even their Thyburon sports car hasn't made the impression they hoped for. Their SUV, same thing and I find them way over priced here for size and what you get out of them. But then again I'm a big fan of real trucks with a real frame not sheet metal.

I agree that maybe, maybe if they sell it under a different brand name they might do well. But they might be at the wrong place at the wrong time too with the economy where into now. What's the percentage of buyers gonna be for high end cars in the next 2-3 years.

I have to agree, the only problems with Honda is the cabin noise, which even Consumer Reports pointed out as Honda's only flaw.
I had mine undercoated and it quietened it quite a bit.

Don't think this car is the same market segment as Lexus, maybe if they double the price  Its on par with the Toyota Avalon and will give it a real run for the money. In the end the consumers are going to win as the companies compete for the highest quality product at the lowest cost.

paxton needs to come out with a blower kit for that car, it would be hilarious with 6-7lbs shoved down its throat  wonder if the rest of the drive train will withstand it..

"people still wont get over the image of a hyundai."

They know that and have their name, or logo, where it doesn't stand out, I think somewhere on the truck. Think of it, first impressions are what a nice car, then "Who Makes It" by then you have a positive outlook on it, great marketing!

The genesis coupe looks like it has some potential. Rwd, with a turbo 4cyl or the same v6, and manual transmission. V8 not available though. Its a bit on the heavy side for what I like.

Don't know if you guy's in the States had their Pony ca in the 80's but that was by far one of the worst pieces of ****. I was looking at theme at the time and even at 20 something I was smart enough not to touch it. Like I say, to us up here they are a good reliable economy car but that's pretty much as far as Hyundai goes.

they called it the excel over here, and it was a huge piece of crap.

My uncle had one and it was by far the worse car he ever bought, poor guy bought it to go back and forth to work because it was so cheap and he could afford it new, should have bought a bus pass instead.

THATS the image I have in my head when I think hyundai.

We had the Excel after the Pony and it was a different model but same garbage here too. My first car was a 1977 Honda civic, 1190cc engine and also a total piece of crap but they've come a long way.
