I am not a ford fan by any means and I own a F-150 also. But today I saw a F-250 V-10 4x4 pull a 39' Gibson house boat up a steep ramp and it never even spun a tire!
As I said before I am not a ford fan, I dont even like the ford I own. I was seriously impressed with the truck I saw today.
Kudo's to Ford for building a real truck that will hopefully give Toyota a run for there money.

I had a Explorer, I liked it but one day it jumped all over the road after I got it back from the shop, tune up. I called the shop and they told me i had one of their 3% or so trucks that get thrown off when up on a lift, Ford called it the tires fault, anyway the shop said don't drive it for about 12 hrs and it would be fine. Sure as hell they were right, you wonder why they, Ford, let this slide? My Mech said it was really scary to here it happened to one of their coustermers, seems I was their first and only though other shops have had it happen they though nothing of it, Ford, they said, would have sent out a recall!:nonod:
Mine has 270,000 miles and don't skip a beat. I pull a tripple axle with a back-hoe, haul 500 gallon water tank, haul all of my materials and product for my business, and a few boats. This truck has worked hard since new and the only engine failure was a rocker arm bolt. Good trucks.

My buddy bought a boat in Las Vegas last week. We rented a 03 f-350. It needed some steering work cause it was a little lose and required more imput then most vehicles to drive it straight down the highway at 80mph but we got used to it. We left Newport MN and filled up twice to get to Vegas. Got 17.9 mpg at 80mph. The truck was awsome. It had so much power. Pin the throttle and you were gone. Pulled a 29' formula fastech back from vegas like it wasn't even there. Passed cars, semis what ever. Was like it wasn't even back there. I'm a chevy guy but that truck sold me. It rode ok empty. I've been in rougher (my cousins Dodge). with that boat it was a cadillac. It was only a extended cab but was enough room for all are stuff and lay the seat back for a nap. I would prefer the four door but, I found my next truck.

One day when I can afford one of those things I'll own one. We've got one here at work (as well as a Dodge dually) and the power is awesome. The 5.4 V8 in the F150 doesn't compare. I've done got use to drivin the diesal that the V8 is borin.:(
no one could ever, EVER convince me that the japs build a better large pickup truck.
those older small jap trucks took a beating and kept going even though they would rust away to nothing, but when it comes to big trucks American all the way.

So everyone knows. Real trucks DON'T have spark plugs.

maybe someone can correct me but wasn't 03 the last year of the heralded 7.3L Powerstroke? What I'm getting at is I don't have experience with the newer ones but I know the trucks up to that year I think were bad as$... so you might look used in those years instead of 04-current?
I agree though, I pulled my parents boat around with my neighbors 99 dually diesel... those trucks pull good. I got about 17 mpg on country roads/curves ON the go pedal to see what she'd do:thumbsup:

You would be correct sir. It seems I remember seeing a 1 ton titled as a 2004 but still had a 7.3 for power...maybe I'm just a crackhead. The successor to the 7.3 was the 6.0 liter which had some problems...primarily injector issues from what little I know of them.......to be followed by the much improved 6.4 bi-turbo (one small wheel, one large wheel).

mine is a 04 and it was the first of the 6.0's I have run it 83000 miles towed stuff up and down the east coast with 0 problems......well except today it was -17* and it wouldn't start but thats my fault for plowing in the dark with the heater cranked up (and for you down south the plow is eletric and clean up means that the plow pump (= to a big starter motor) runs almost none stop) doing clean up in the yard and not giving it 10 min to chargre the batteries up before shutting it down....well and I didn't plug it in LMAO!!! my bad
the 6.4 on the other hand a buddy just bought one and has 0 problems carries a expanable 8 to 10 foot plow and said it whips the ass off his old (04) chevy diesal doesn't ride as nice but out works it hands down
and as far as power I can kick the ass of a 7.3 but with the same size boat on the back the 6.4 and the 6.0 are to close to call

which motor is best? From what I gather 7.3>6.0
6.4>6.0... is the 6.4> or = 7.3?
(This is what I thought I heard)... hottrucks says 6.0>7.3 Just wondering really...

6.0 = 6.4
6.0 > 7.3
also according to my buddie
6.4 > duramax
and non turbos are a thing of the past

I know very little of the 6 and 6.4 liter motors truthfully. I take everything I hear from self-proclaimed geniuses and technicians alike with a grain of salt obviously due to bias and personal experience. I spent alot of time in a 4wd 2003 excursion with a 7.3 and it towed 9,800 lbs of boat/trailer amazingly well with better fuel milage (17mpg-ish) than my '03 FX4 1/2 ton 5.4 2V( yes, I know, thats no amazing feat). I was sold on them and would have bought a diesel rig over my present truck if DF2 wouldn't have been creeping up on $5/gal at the time. Besides, its hard to justify a 4WD 3/4 ton diesel thats used for minimal work and towing a boat/trailer combo that weighs 1200lbs. Given I'd be in the market for a new truck right now, I'd still have to buy a ford product even though I've gained alot of respect for the duramax trucks recently.

Within 6 months, the US auto industry may well be run by the government.
In that case, the quality of Michigan trucks will rapidly approach that of Michigan roads.

The 6.0 or 6.4 are NO MATCH for the 7.3. ;) Period end of story. I see all three of then at work. 7.3 hands down, gas mileage, power and if you put a micro-processor on it look for up to 500hp in hi-po mode. Chuck

:iagree:I'm a Dodge man 5.9 cummins (work truck) ran: 12.93 @ 109mph "yeh it's a four door" and still gets 24.0mpg w/ no load and 19.5 pulling an 18' flats boat @ 80mph... But as to the Powerstokes the 7.3 was a darn good motor...
Wat? ?
It was back when they said the tires were the problem, maybe they were in some cases but their was a problem with the suspension, or frame. It was rare but I can tell you first hand that after I picked it up from the shop I drove it home, about two miles, and right bofer I got home I made a right hand turn at about 10 MPH and all hell broke lose. The Blanking Explorer felt like the wheels were coming off, the whole truck whoobled for about 25 ft. Got out to see if the lugs were thight, they were, and drove slowly up the rd to my house. I called the shops owner, he was at a loss, he checked with his mech who told him he only heard of it happening twice in about ten yrs. I kept it parked over night as they said and never had it happen again.
After reading this I spoke with a friend that is a service writer for a Chevy dealership. He said he obviously doesn't know about the Fords but it is not unheard of with Chevrolet. According to Tom they will not do an re-alignment on a new vehicle for at least 500 miles. After being strapped down for delivery there is a chance for shifting and/or binding in the suspension from sitting at an angle and they want it to settle in to place and driving it is the only way. He also said the type of lift used on certain vehicles can allow the suspension to bind and not return to it's original position. He noted it was very rare but has seen it several times in the 20 or so years he has been workng on them. My super duty occasionally makes a popping noise after getting in the vehicle. This is before moving or starting the truck. A friend of mine works for Ford and he says it is the leaf springs binding and the change in weight when I get in is what is making the noise. I guess anything is possible.
