Just to put it in perspective. 2 trillion tons of water would raise the world's oceans approximately .002 inches. At this rate , 2 thou in 5 years, the oceans would raise an inch in 2,500 years.
hope it helps

The point is that the way the NASA report is published is designed to incite an emotional reaction "Holy chit, the levees ain't gonna hold."
In fact, the melting of 2 trillion tons of ice is a relative non-event.
hope it helps

I have seen some girls visiting Florida from "States above here" that could raise the Ocean level by a couple of feet when they swim......

whats more concerning to raising sea levels than land ice described in that article is the huge state sized pieces of ice coming off the ice shelves in the antarctic and arctic. J you are right that these changes are pretty minor events, but scientists are concerned (slightly) because its happening sooner than predicted. Unfortunately, what should just come across as a story of hey, this is happening and might be something to keep an eye on. Fear and rating mongering news agencies will make an armageddon report on it, which will scare some, and make disbelievers out of the rest who are sick of hearing about it.
I prefer to read the primary research articles, they are a bit of a dry read, but give you a much better idea of whats going on and what the real point of the research is.
