I'm pretty stoked for what should be the best UFC card in a while, possibly ever. The Griffin/Evans main event should be incredible.
I can't imagine this won't be the best card ever.

Boxing is the only sport I follow and would rather see two men fight standin upright then dry humpin each other on the mat like they do in UFC.

I am still a boxing fan. The politics and general garbage involved has really hurt the sport. That said I'd rather see a great boxing match than a great wrestling match. I like the action of MMA but that jui-jitsu stuff, rolling around on the floor trying to choke another grown man, gets boring. I guess thats why most of the popular UFC fighters are more likely to stand and throw hands rather than take the fight to the mat.

in the UFC you have to encompass EVERY aspect of a real fight, you could get kicked, tackled, choked, submitted, etc. Way more to it. The only thing a boxer has to watch out for is getting punched. To each their own....

No doubt MMA fighters are better all around fighters than any boxer it's just that I find any wrestling that doesn't involve pile-drivers :D to be a bit too slow for my short attention span.

I'd rather fight a dude on the ground then fight any boxer though, I hate getting punched in the face, it hurts.
I do get annoyed when guys go to the ground and do not improve or attempt to improve their position however.

the next ufc card is great imo
it is easy to disrespect grappling and say something ignorant like "2 dudes dry humping" until you roll
with a good submission wrestler and he rag dolls you , makes you cry like a little girl and totally humbles you

Certainly not the best card ever but it's a lot better than the junk UFC has been putting out lately.

Penn destroys GSP! Write it down ;)

if you had the slightest idea about the skill level it takes to be good at grapling/wrestling or jusjitu you wouldnt be making such childish comments.
i wrestled for 4years in hs and was decent, have have also trained brazilian jujitsu for a year or so. my regular training partner was 6'2' and 240lbs, at 5'5' 155lbs i was able to throw him around. now if we were standing up and he hit me with a good shot it would be lights out. but on the ground is where the smaller guys can even things up in the street.
i think theres more skill level on the ground then standup. theres so many variations of arm locks, chokes, leg locks etc. and when someone is very well trained in jujitsu its impressive to watch.
Scott
p.s. i used to like boxing untill all the good fighters got old and retired.. or are still trying to fight and getting beaten. boxing is still big but UFC is clearly taking over. the skills needed for ufc are 10x that of boxing. there is no one dimensional fighters in the ufc (that win)

guys who are not comfortable with their own manhood will never be able to wrestle/grapple/etc.
wingnut you aren't kiddin about us smaller guys being able to even things out on the ground with smart leverage, positioning and submissions.

yup , i think the guys who say things like NNT just said above arent comfortable with themselves so they have to say stupid things like that to make themselves feel better
maybe they are just hiding gay feelings and struggling with it , so they have to try extra hard to appear "macho"
.
Yea, I'm not secure in my manhood, thats it. No quite frankly I am just tired of every avg suburban joe whitebread thinkin he's billy joe badass because he sits around shovelin hot wings down his throat while he watches UFC. Obviously you have not followed boxing lately, some of the best boxers are out there right now to see. Notice I didn't say loud mouthed, obnoxious attention whores like Mike Tyson, who unfortunately draw the most ignorant of admirers. Lets see some of these UFC guuys step into the ring with either of the Klitchko brothers and try their hand at a stand up boxing match. Chances are they will be staring at the ceiling in under a round.
As far as overall athletic conditioning, most boxers are by far in much better shape then most of the portly UFC guys I have seen. of course I am makin a joke when I say they are dry humpin each other on the mat, but that sort of grapplin and submission hold manuevers interest me as much as watchin paint dry. I still say these UFC events are still just a fad and will probably be out of the limelight in under 10 years. Time will tell.

i agree with that statement , boxers just practice one thing , and they have it perfected
same way a great boxer would lose badly to even a mid level college wrestler in wrestling match
in an actual fight i bet even a mid level ufc guy would literaly kill (i mean actually cause death) the best boxer in the world in their weight class
when you are watching the ufc and feel it is boring , it is because both guys train grappling so they often cancel each other out , if you watch a great grappler vs a begginer grappler you would be suprized how action packed it is
.

I think your bettin the farm that boxers have no other skills but boxin, I don't think I'd want to be a mid level ufc guy and take on some of those big boxers. Remember most of those guys grew up on the mean streets as well where their were no rules. Personally I am glad they keep it professional in the ring, except for a few losers like Mike Tyson that have blemished the sport. Thats why I like the new crop of eastern european heavyweights. They come in, dismantle their opponent like a finely tuned machine and then leave. No don king hype and bs, just pure boxin.

i will agreee that a UFC fighter would probably get knocked out in the ring against a top notch boxer... but a top notch boxer would get destroyed in any ufc fight.. so that kind of cancles each other out.
as far as conditioning, UFC is 3-5, 5min rounds with 1min rest inbetween each round (if im not mistaken). Boxing is 10-12 3min. rounds with 1.5min rest inbetween each round (again if im not mistaken)
boxing: 30min-36. of fighting, 15min rest.
UFC: 15-25min. of fighting, 2-4min. rest.
if you have ever tried to do stand up or grapling for 5min. straight.. its insanely tiring! and add in that there is less rest then boxing.. makes it (in my opinion) alot tougher.
and i will agree with you that i havent followed boxing closely at all within the last few years, and that UFC does make a few guys turn into "tough guys" after watching a UFC event.

I have seen boxers fight 10+ rounds with broken hands, wrists, noses, have seen a boxer knocked out so hard he broke his leg on the way down to the canvas and I remember watchin the fight where duk koo kim died after the match with Ray Mancini. There have been other deaths as well if my memory serves me well. This is just from two man trading blows, no submission holds, grappling, kicks etc, just thier hands. Yea boxers are pretty much talentless bums with no skills or power compared to the ufc guys *sarcasm*

yeah but the little bit of rolling around on the street while growing up wont translate well when you have a high level brazilian jiu jitsu/mma fightert on top of you going for constatnt submissions and ground and pounding you silly
it would be like saying i was in a bunch of slugfests in a parking lot while growing up so i think i can hang with________(fill in the best boxer)
until you roll with a decent submission grappler you wont understand , it will humble you a whole lot
mma is a legit sport with high level athletes and i would put my money on the mma fighter anyday

nobody said boxers arent skilled or tough , they are phenominal atletes for sure
you are just arguing with an imaginary opponent i guess , LOL
but the fact remains , without training in ground fighting daily , a boxer will get killed once an mma fighter gets them on the ground period
what is so hard to understand ? if you are the worlds best motorcycle rider you cant just hop in a formula one car and expect to be the best your first time out
you really have no clue about the sport of mma and coming in this thread with your "boxing is superior" talk just shows how clueless you are about fighting

Agreed, almost all of these fights are total toss ups, some of the best pride and ufc fighters going at it, all have either been a contender or held a belt at some point, should be great. The undercard all looks pretty good too, some supreme fighters. Going to be an awesome show.

once again Rampage showed he is trash. Silva was out cold and Rampage still giving 4-5 blows to the head while the ref was trying to pull him off after the first knockout punch. i realize that you have to finish the job but when the ref is on you after the first punch and you still give 4-5 more punches he is trash "you know wat i sayin". I wanted Forrest to win but im glad he handled the lost well and he was still up beat about it. that was my favorite fight of the night. He was clearly out before he hit the mat, but I counted 3 hits while the Ref. was bear hugging Rampage with both arms, trying to pull him off.
I realize adrinaline pump and all, but that looked more like.......anger/revenge?
I've seen BJ Penn hold arm bars longer than he needed to after a tap-out, and a few rear naked chokes that went on longer than the tap also.
.
watch it again
wand hit the ground , rampage instantly lands 1 punch which isnt a big deal , remember that is in slow motion so in real time he is hitting his opponent as soon as he lands , he doesnt have time to totally access the situation and realize if wand is out cold or not
then there are 2 punches after the ref makes contact with rampages body
im not saying it is cool to punch a guy 2 times after the ref grabs you by any means , but lets be fair and call it like it is

your blowing that out of proportions, how many times has an MMA fighter clearly knocked a guy out, the ref doesnt stop the fight and the guy comes back to win? I've seen it at least a few times, rampage did nothing wrong, put that in real time and I guaruntee if you had the adrenaline rush and the focus on knocking the guy out that rampage had you would have done the same and not even noticed the referee for the .4895 seconds it took to punch him two more times.
waterwings I will agree with you on BJ Penn, he does seem to hold his submissions a bit longer then necessary, I've seen him have to have the ref pull chokes off guys, but again the same thing, how does he know who's tapping him, or trying to punch him, or trying to pull his hands off a guys throat?

I'd be willing to bet his attitude is learned behavior from people telling him he couldn't his entire life.....well now he has, and did, and will....go rashad!!
