Can't remember,

What year Streams were the ones to avoid with the bottom coring/delam issues? Was it 85-87?

My Buddy is looking at a 1990? Valero YT. He says after poking, prodding, foam testing it looks good. Transom well has been glassed over and passed the motor bounce test.

Appears to be a dry, inside stored 2 owner boat.

Rubber hammer test and moisture meter say its OK

Any input appreciated

Scott

This isn't Q-shot's old black Valero by chance, is it? Man, that's a nice boat.

Scott, if I recall, the worst issues were with the early YT bottoms. John Tiger will know for sure.

I'm not a big fan of the rubber mallet test. I like something harder like a plastic hammer, easier to tell subtle differences in the sound.

Look at Sonik's recore thread, that boat looks new, and passed all the tests. Don't want to be a party pooper, but you'll do well to be a pessimist when buying a used Stream.

I :iagree: w/ Pete

I've played with the rubber v.s plastic after it was suggested to me a while back and after a short learning curve and tuning my ear, the plastic head seems to give a more significant sound differential when you hit a solid vs. rot/delam'd panel than a rubber one will give you. Just my .02

Scott,

I can't provide you with much in the way of delam info, but I will say, while alot of my education came after the fact, I still went into my purchase pretty well informed. I bought the boat from my brother AND I spent 3 years in it prior to owning it. Both of us were certain it was solid, and I was amazed I could have missed anything...obviously I did :( Found soft spots completely by accident with my knee when performing the changeover from OMC V4 to Merc V6.

I'm fairly certain that you will get plenty of input as time goes by and I wish your friend the best of luck on the purchase of a boat.

Thanks guys, Thanks John.

I have found and done all the itchy recores I need to. Busted up and sunk all the boats I need to. Been there and done that.

Just wanna save me & my buddy some greif.

This thing has a 20" stock 2.5 Lazer sytle EFI motor with a manual CMC jack & a small shaft CLE. Dual rack cable steer with soldi mounts. Nothing to fancy Guy says it runs 80/85 MPH. I figure it should do that.

Its blue or black with the std graphic the guy has had it for probably 15 years or better.

I'm going through a delamination repair on my Valero. You will feel the softness in the pad. I've always made it a habit to look at the pad before going out and found the problem. There will be some ribes put in the pad to stiffen things up in the at area. I think there is to much flexing on the YT pad IMO.

When there's good core in there, it doesn't flex. That's the whole point.
