what's the best thing to take dry brittle decals off a boat?
3M eraser wheel. Any bodyshop supply house should carry one. It is a rubber wheel you put in your drill to remove pinstripes, side molding residue, etc. They are about $30-35 Canadian. DON'T buy cheaper ones that aren't 3M! They are half the price, but, leave a residue/stain behind, not good, especially on white gelcoat!!
They last a long time, depending how many decals you have to remove. I have removed decals from five complete boats, and there is still 1/3 of the wheel left.
Don't think, just buy! I have tried the heat gun and plastic razer blades, the real razor blades, putty knives, etc. This is quick, easy, and idiot proof! You will not damage your gelcoat, paint, powdercoat, glass or any other surface.

Just like matthew said if you leave it in one spot too long no matter what surface it will burn right through it. Just keep it moving and you shouldn't have any problems they really do work great.

be sure to use it in the correct speed drill if it's not fast enough they work like crap but in the right drill they can't be beat
