A friend is thinking of buying a Shamrock from the west coast of Fla. and wants to know if it came be taken thru the state via rhe cannals to the east coast? From what I've heard the water levels on Lake Okeechobee are a big factor?

Shouldn't be a problem. Levels have been higher than normal from what I've heard. There's a series of locks, but it's a nice trip. The Caloosahatchee River runs from Ft. Myers to Stuart.

level not an issue the caloosahachee river runs from vero beach to ft myers 4 locks from east coast to west coast the only way in this state plenty of water you couldnt touch bottom if you wanted too great riding we have done it 5 or 6 times/red rocket out

I want to do that trip some day. Waren and others (maybe me if the boat is running) are doing 2/3 of it this Saturday--Clewiston on Lake Okeechobee west to Fort Myers.

To be technical, your friend's route would be up the Calossahatchee from Ft. Myers to Moore Haven on Lake Okeechobee, then around the rim ditch canal or direct across the lake to Canal Point, then down the St. Lucie Canal/River to Stuart and the Intracoastal Waterway.

It is a lot of fun except the lazy Fed employees that run the locks.

i wonder , how big of a boat can go through there ?

i wonder how deep is the shallowest point ?

how much clearance under the lowest bridge ?

Other than when the lake is real low (and right now it is high and the idiots drained about 2 feet), big boats can do this. The lock I have been in is huge (the one closest to Ft. Myers), I am sure the others are the same. Bridges all open except some very high level ones--like 70' or 90'--only issue is big sailboats. I have seen 100' yachts on the Calossahatchee, and some pretty big (80 or 100) Navy workboats.

I was confusing Clewiston run and Toys for Tots. Li'l Toy is up with Monty for some help, may be running by the 13th.

I've done this run across the state six times and it is a real neat run. I enjoy it more in our 34' Sea Ray at 30 mph while drinking a beer and looking at my other half on the bow in a bikini. There are a lot of no wake zones beginning at the I-75 bridge heading west. A real pain in the a__. My old STV won't break 100 mph so I guess I cannot keep up with Red Rocket on the run next weekend.:iagree:
