I've done a search on Z port engines. Can't find too much. What's the story on these? Does anybody have any experience with them? I hear they can easily put out 300+ HP. Anything would be helpful. Thanks

I want to hear this too.
I think it it something along the lines of a Bridgeport, but the bridge is at an angle instead of straight up and down?

i have seen one....... the bridge going through the exhaust port runs diagnal....
it was to get from wearing the ring... merc made them but i heard they were never in production... you had to purchase them as a replacement block....... there was one for sale on here a couple of years ago........ that what i was told...........

I had one that Eric Simon did. He said he had the sleeves made, and Mercury never did build any and only a liminted number of the sleeves were available. I have heard stories of big HP, and stories of what a waste of money. If it had been all that good they would still be around.

How did the one that Eric Simon built for you run?

I had one that was custom built in Canada (2.5 Z port ) sleeves leaked like a sieve ( ALL of them ) and AFTER it was repaired it would'nt fall out of a tree compaired to one of my OVAL port engines..IMO I wouldn't trade a 53' tractor trailor load of em for one oval port Drag Motor...
But thats just my opinion and .02

Simon didn't build it for me. He built it for a guy in California named Rhett Butler,(yea, like gone with the wind). It had a cylinder repaired before I bought it, and Simon was named as the builder, and the one that did the repairs. I talked to Simon on the phone, and he was the guy that built the engine, and repaired the bad cylinder. I lost trust in the person I bought it from after his stories for shipment didn't figure in with the delivery date, also parts were missing, or damaged. I tore the engine down before ever running it, and found metal in the center mains from improper cleaning after the cylinder repair, and rust on the crank from condensation. I heard so many bad stories about the Zport that I traded the block for some other parts because I was afraid to sink anymore money into it. With the one oversize cylinder it had to be fitted with Wiseco fishing pistons. I decided to go another route. It had fishing pistons in it when I got it.

The Z port motors where built before the Mercury Drag came out. They did make more power then the 260. A Drag Block will make more power.
Quicksilver, I did build that motor the first time in 1995 ,Rhett rebuilt it after he blew the heads off with the 275HP nitrox system.

As Jay said, I had one and it made great power, and ran good, but the oval port drag was just as fast, with less work and trouble, also noticed they were harder to tune, even with a pcu. Go with a drag. Jeff:thumbsup:
