Inline Merc 115 HP

What years did they make the inline 115hp 6cyl. Were they a good motor??????

1970 was the first year. 1973 was first year with new bolt pattern. In early '80's the 78 and newer 1400 which was basically the same as the '77 and earlier 1500 became rated at 1150 because of the new NET horsepower rating system adopted by Merc. There were a LOT of different 1150's over the years. The 80's ADI 1150's are considered by many to be the best inline 6 ever made, but I think they were all good engines.

Thanks guys,I'm looking at a center console for my son the guys says the motor is a 89 didn't think they made them in 89??????

My book shows the last 115 as 1988 ... but that doesn't mean it wasn't bought new in 89 and assumed to be an 89. Probably what you are looking at

Definitely NOT. The only year the 140 was made was 1972. The last inline 6 was a 115.

140 was made from 77-to as far as 81 I think also. 88 was the last year of production for the 115. After they went to the enrichener for cold starts and some carb tweak it was a great runing motor. Then came the chugging, idle for **** 3 cylinders and the tempermental no rpm 4 cyls.

Duh, you are right about the later 140 ... made while they were selling the 150 V-6 before prop shaft rating made it the 115

Last year listed for a 115 inline 6 is 1988 sr # beginning B239242. Last year of the 140 inline 6 is 1981 sr# beginning 5625108. Last year of the inline 150 is 1975 sr# beginning 4125985.
