FINALLY!!

I had a friend of mine in England that runs a very stable commercial news-server put up a free newsgroup dedicated to the care, feeding. and preservation of inline 6's.

The news server is: news.kraits.org

The newsgroup is: bigweek.mercury-inlines

If you don't know how to configure outlook express to subscribe to a news-server - gimme a holler.

The group is brand new today - it is my hope to make it a regular stop on the tour for the inline 6 guru's and lovers.

to ask how. Usually one sends a "subscribe" message. Is this not the way? Pretty neat idea! Thanks! Mark

Using Outllook Express it's:

tools / accounts / news (tab) / add (button) / news

then follow the wizzard.
use news.kraits.org as the NNTP server.

when your done it will ask if you want to download a list of newsgroups on the server - say yes.

Then select bigweek.mercury-inlines and click "subscribe"

From there on it works like any usened newsserver...

Jeff, that's odd ???

3 peeps have found it so far. (but it's only been up a day) Let me take a look see. I trust you've subscribed to stray servers before with success?

Jeff,

The IP is 195.8.68.219 try using that instead of news.kraits.org

The reason for using news.kraits.org though, instead of the IP, is that once (about a year ago) the IP of the server changed. Those using DNS lookup were OK - those using the IP were hosed.

This server is on the UK's news.clara.net system.
A friend and employee there set up a "secret server within a server" thingie and creates NNTP newsgroups by request.

The server itself has long term stability. (at least it did before all the bull**** with ISP's failing the last few months <grin>

It doesn't send merssages to your mailbox - it works like any usenet message board. You find the group and click "subscribe" then you''ll get an icon in Outlook to click to go there to read and post.

It's a standard NNTP newgroup server. (like the alt.newsgroups)
