Hello all, I am a noobee with a couple of questions. I am about to close a deal on the above mentioned boat. Am I correct in thinking that this is a Steve Stepp hull, or is it a Regal version? It is a 32' with twin evinrude 225's, but will come with 4 extra evinrude 225's aswell. 2 that run, and 2 that are in need of a rebuild.
I was thinking of a possible swap over to triple 225's since I have the extra engines if it's doable. Perhaps going with an engine bracket to do so. Should be a real screamer with that setup. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself, and get any input or suggestions about my future rig.

Being an 83' it's a Stepp boat. Regal's first production year I believe was 87. Also, it should be a 30' not a 32'.
Make sure to have a survey done on it before you finalize the deal, to ensure there's no major problems, and rot in the stringers, transom, etc.
There is a member on here that goes by Tripps. He has or had one with triple 200 Merc's, and could help you with setup, etc.
Good luck.

If this is the boat that was in louisiana. those are not 225's. They are crossflow engines, not loop charged 225. See if it has 3- 2barrell metal carbs(crossflow) or 6 plastic one barrels(loopcharged).

That boats a deal, get it ,sell the motas, put 2 v-8 rudes on it and have fun,i have 3 200's on mine,on the transom, goes 70,u will not find a better riding hull, that size,4 that $. i say put v-8s on it cause the wiring is probally the same,or u could convert to 2 250 mercs and have a nice boat. that hull is capable of some serious condiontions,i have been in a few and it can handle anything u can:eek::eek::eek: i thought about sellin mine, but after the 31 corsa i built with 2 250's that runns great,im keepin my Velocity, like they say, there is no ride like a pad hull,or nothing like it go 4 it u wont be sorry no matter what it needs, transom, stringers, gas tank,if u doubt me just go price any new 30,i know its a 83,but fiberglass really dont go bad pm me your phone # and ill call u tripps

Hey guys, thanks for all of the info. The boat seems to be pretty sound when it comes to it's structure. Still up in the air when it comes to how I'm going to rig it up. This will be my first go around with a powerboat. All of the other boats I have rebuilt were more along the lines of Grady White's, Bayliners ect....
Looking to have a little fun this go around. While I do like the idea, look, and possibilities of triple engines, twins are still in the picture if I can get them setup right. May even trade off these for a better combo.
Thank's again for all of the suggestions.

I'm not to familiar with outboards, so when you say not 225's what do you mean by that? My neighbor is telling me to trade/sell them off and go with merc's. He said bridgports would be really nice on the back, but are hard to find.

Biohzrd, There is an interesting 30' Velocity for sale down in Florida. From the pictures it looks like it might be in decent shape. Frank www.powerboatlistings.com/view/4696

thats a nice looking setup. a big fan of the triple engine setup!! 95mph!!! thats moving out. would there be any advantage to using an engine bracket instead of transum mounting?

Bio,the boat that 22 is talking about is very nice and fast, but u get what u pay 4:eek: Maybe u could sell all the motas that come with it,lets say 2500 and your into it for 1500,get 2 v-8,s for lets say 4 5500 and they are around, and pretty decent motas,so for 7000 plus 1000 for xtras, and there are always xtras you got a 75 mph boat. If that boat was up here i would have bought it already, hey u could use it with the motas on it now,bet it would go 55-60 mph. bridgeports, they are good, but need alot of attention, and to put mercs on it,plan on alot of xtras, harnesses for starters. If you want to go tripples, forget that boat and buy the one 22 velocity told you about ,no work, just gas and go tripps

it was good talking to you, and thanks for the great advice. it does make a lot of since to go that route. a 75mph boat is plenty fast for me. like i was telling you, dependability is more important to me than all out speed. thanks again,

would it be worth it to mount them on jackplates and/or get them up a little bit?

does anyone know the hull weight of this boat?

After repowering mine this past spring, I agree with Tripps. If you go with that boat, stick with twin power. Keep it simple. Everything is right there. Switching over to triples is a ton of work and expense.

Evinruded made 200/235 Crossflow engines in the early/mid 80's then switched to the loopcharged engines. As PDBOATS stated, when you look at the boat, pull the cowlings off and see what carbs are under there or post pictures. Loopcharged engines are a little newer and have a lot of potential. The Crossflow motors were reliable but getting difficult to find alot of parts for, and they like gas... I like Tripps' idea of running twin Evinrude V8's. Easy change over and good bang for the buck on a big boat.
As far as brackets or jackplates, the main purpose behind it is to raise the motor and/or move the center of gravity back. Get with Tripps or someone else who has one to find out if the COG is good on the transom or that hull needs setback. The V8s, if you go that route, will be a bit heavier than the current motors and will do that anyways.

Thanks for the great info guys. I really appreciate it. I figure I'll stick with the 235's for right now, and try and sorce some good v8's in the meen time. Maybe do a few little things to them, but nothing too major. Although I've said that before.
I have to totally agree with everyone about staying with twins. Two big v8's with a little tweaking here and there with some good props should do nicely. Was looking at the merc lower unit conversions today in fact. Lots of great info on this site. Keep the good advice coming guys, and thanks again.:iagree:

Just an update.... Got back home today, and went and looked at the extra engines that come with the boat. Much to my surprise two of the engines already have aftermarket lower units with chopper props on them. These are the original engines off the boat. The props are 14 1/4 x 27what look like choppers. I can't wait to get inside them and see if anythig else has been done to them. Looking better all the time.
