OK boyz, you asked for it, here it is:

The dates are 5-7 June 2009.

The location is Wildwood Park, on Clark's Hill Lake in Columbia County, GA. The site is a 150 spot campground, if you feel like camping for the weekend.

The shootout will be run in conjunction with an ECDBA race weekend, and liability insurance will be provided by the ECDBA through the AOF. You must be an AOF AND ECDBA member to run.

This event is open to single outboard boats ONLY.

The purse right now, as of today 15 Oct 08 is $1000. We are hoping to up that considerably by June:thumbsup:

We will have two sheriff's boats with a radar gun in each boat to get an accurate speed. The run is going to be in the cove next to the park. There should be a good half a mile to get up to speed. As far as the format goes, we are open to suggestions. Personally, I would like to see one prize, for the fastest boat.

If you think you're fast, or just want too find out how fast you are, you do not want to miss this event. We are also trying to get a lake run organized. So, any of you that know the lake and feel like helping, get a hold of me.

And Greg, how about some coverage of the weekend?

Suggestions?

And 882fan, you got room at the house?:D

Just clearing up the ECDEBA membership deal. Since we are going to insure it, you need to join the club. It will be at a very reduced rate if you are only there for the Shootout. Any racers that run it will (should) already be AOF members.

I'm trying to get a Google map up.

If you can't read the gps coordinates, just look up Wildwood Park in Columbia County GA. The cove is over a mile long. If you put it in and zoom in you can see the ramps and the whole point the site is on is the campgrounds.

More FYI: All boats will have to pass a safety inspection, just like they would if they were at a sanctioned race. There will be divers and a full medical support team there also. We are committed to make this happen safely and safety will be our first priority.

PM'd ya back Jody.

Hey Wally, I can't get on the other board, and JT told me you posted over there. I was planning on giving you a call about this. I just figured I'd wait till everything settles down after Jasper. I'll call you next week.

Re: The Official ECDBA High Speed Shootout Thread!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dates are 5-7 June 2009.....

What is going to be done to control normal lake traffic, jet ski, bassboat, big cruiser, and wakeboard boat---both boats and wakes from entering that cove front????

I'm all in and all for racing at home(only live 4 miles from this site)... BUT, something will need to be done to control this.

Which direction are you going to run?? From the big water and boat ramp to rear of cove, or from the rear of the cove toward the boat ramp and big water??

Those dates are after school is out and the lake is quite popular, especially in that particular area. DNR or the Sherriff dept will have to somehow establish a NO WAKE ZONE for the opening of that cove into the Keg Creek channel.

Boat ramp and park is great. Will park 125 trucks/boats, 4 double ramps with docks going in.

Camping sites stay pretty booked up, Lee, you should just park at the ramp, the sites are actually down a different road from the ramp and a little small for your rig.

E mail or pm Scott Tharpe, he can probably help you with DNR, Ambulance, Dive team, crane for scales, etc. He has put on the Scream and Fly Rallies at Clarks Hill and has done all this work for his events.

If I get a chance, next day or two, I'll go shoot a few photos of the place. It will be ugly right now. Lake is down approx 18 feet.

have already spoke to dive team thats covered, the band playing on saturday night will more than likely be brass thyme, they have put the event in there books (just have to see if funds will be availble to pay band!!!) talking to ems, sheriffs dept. hope to meet with dnr next week, to see how we can control boats on keg creek in front of cove. wildwood park is looking at only allowing boat racing traffic in the park for that weekend, and if you don't want to see the boat races you can use the ramp on the keg creek side of wildwood, same goes for camping. there will be no boat traffic allowed in the cove (race sight). as for the direction of racing the boats it probaly will be up to wind direction and water level, for the high speed shoot out. (safety is the #1 issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
thanks to all again nick costello

BRASS TYME ????? $$$$ ?????

You guys need to come just to hear the band, even if you dont race....

These guys are PRO level band. Mike and his group are great. This aint 2 guitars and a drum machine. They play a lot of NASCAR events for corporate entertainment, Mytle Beach Shag week, etc.

It will be a great race...if we get traffic control....

and a great party....if Brass Tyme plays

This race site was the original birthplace of the now famous Augusta Southern Nationals.

We also used to race APBA OPC circle races there in the 70's too.

Get a radio station or TV station to do a little backing and adwork...you will have a big crowd.

Make the county put up their flashing signs at Pollards Corner for 3 weeks prior to the boat race like they do for the bass tournaments.

Might as well split the purse.....

......or look for another $1,000 in prize money. Aint no Alllisons gonna be able to beat Dixon's or Morris's STV in a high speed shoot out....and they know it. If you dont split the class the Allison boys wont come.

Well, they might come, but historically, they dont like playing with "Casper", "Boo", or "Blackie"

Might as well give them a shot on their own if you want to see them run.

Preston, you need to bring your STV and run DRAG KING. Maybe Matthew will have his carbon fibre super lightweight Allison done by then and come run DRAG KING too.

ECDBA will need to find a $1,000 sponsor winner take all for DRAG KING also, or the field will be really small. Money seems to get these boys off the trailer. They have already earned "bragging rights".

I don’t think the water level now is indicative to what it will be in June. At least I hope not. The last time I put in there, there wasn’t much water at all in the back of the cove but plenty up front. I would think running out of the cove would be the safest due to much more slow down area and better spectator viewing but then you could have a cross wind to worry about. A mile isn’t a whole lot of distance when your running way over a hundred. Hopefully we’ll get a bunch of rain before then and you wont have to worry about it. Jus my .02 Scott

SHUT DOWN KEG CREEK for a weekend.....?????

Good luck.

You might get them to create a no wake zone between just past the powerlines towards Petersbug, down to approx Billy Morris house, but I'd have to say YOU DA MAN if can zero out traffic in Keg Creek for 2 days in the first part of June..

Is Columbia County Wildwood Park going to keep all the gate money??...or will part of it go to prize money, and/or race expenses??

10-21-2008, 07:02 AM
The camo boat cant hang with that DP dusty hot rod.

I went to wildwood park yesterday to shoot a few photos. At 314 waterlevel, no point in that.

I did talk with one of the county/park employees, he said campsite rental is available only after Jan 1, spectator area is anywhere they will fit, county is getting ALL gate money, but paying ECDBA to put the race on, no add to Prize money, so as ususal, we are racing for our own money. He said DNR and Columbia County Sheriffs Dept were going to try to do traffic control at the end of the cove.

If any LOCALS have pontoon boats, etc LOAN them to Columbia County Sheriffs Dept to help keep the cove blocked off.

I am going to loan them the Special Forces Camo Boat. (i'll have take the guns and the grenades out first). They only have one boat.

Any Locals with business (or locals with fat wallets) that want to add to the purse, JUMP IN...

that is what makes the boats show up.
Instead of adding to the general prize fund, just specify: I'll give $500 bucks to the winner of PRO Gas, or Modified Production, or Super Stock, or Pro Stock, or Lake Racer, Pro Carb, etc.

Augusta used be be a big boat racing community...hopefully we can get their attention in the next 8 months.

It's now official, we have a distance award sponsor. Thanks to Tango, his company Pixx By Tangos (http://www.pixxbytango.com/) going to put up $1000 for the top three farthest travelers. It will be paid out $500, $300, and $200.

So now we have $1000 for the fastest tunnel/hydro, $1000 for the fastest V bottom, and $1000 for distance traveled to get there. Any one else who is interested in sponsoring this event can get a hold of me for more info.

Hey Phil.I looked on the ECDBA web site and didnt see a class rule page.Where can I get the class rules for your club? Thanks

Rob, you can download the rules HERE (http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/12/7/2214555/ECDBA%202009%20RULES.doc). Our website is in transition so they haven't been posted there yet.

Any predictions on who wil be fastest, who will break 100-teens and who wil break trying?

A buddy has a "Glastron" bass boat that's at 115 with a stock 280. We're hoping he puts a race motor on it and bring it for the V class.

I'll probably break trying:D

Rob,
Look in the members menu for the rules on the ecdba site, I think they are still 2008 though. Go to Racers Hangout here and scroll down about half way to 2009 ecdba rules are up post by Joe.

Don't know boys?, just dragged in from hunting, the old carp boat has an APBA official time with electronic equipment for a 5/8 mile average faster than anything i've heard about on here, I will be there to run the drag race, so we will may throw a big prop on the on the drag boat to see what it will do?
I have an official time of almost 119 in the carp boat, and a 122.4 GPS reading so no need to run that through a radar trap, if we have some legit timing gear it would make it interesting as I hope to reach 125 in the old fishing boat.
Just have to wait and see, I just hope it ain't during turky season!!!!!!
Shook

We're looking at 1/2 mile run and 1/2 mile shut down. The "exact" layout and dimensions of the course won't be set until we get there. One thing that won't change is that we are going to run into the cove. If you look at the first page and see the Google Earth pic, that means top to bottom.

how much to join both clubs just to run this event/red rocket out

You only have to join the ECDBA. AOF is our insurance and it's $75 for that, plus $15 for each member, each weekend. That part is non-negotiable unless you are already an AOF member. Then it's only 15 bucks for the event.

We are talking about giving a "Special Event Rate" membership for the guys that just want to run the shootout. Since you have to be a club member due to insurance regs, we are going to TRY and reduce the normal one event rate.

I'm going down to the site on Friday. The water level has risen a bunch and is still rising, which will give us considerably more running room. Hope to have a preliminary course length & layout this weekend.

$1000 for tunnels/hydros, and $1000 for V bottom. Winner take all.

Plus, an additional grand for the long distance award, that I believe will be paid out $500, $300, $200.

That is the perfect water level. Plenty of water to keep normal people from running up on the bank and enough sand to track the boat up into the woods for the rest of us. See you there!

In to the cove. We (everyone involved) feel that is the safest direction.

Not unless some more money comes in. We're working on that too:thumbsup: But if you come in second Ronnie I'll personally give you $1.00 and buy you a beer:D

Not unless someone wants to sponsor a class. Just be cause we are limiting it to two classes doesn't mean we're trying to exclude anyone. We want ANYONE who passes tech and wants to run to come out and give it a shot. We all know what the race boats and lake boats are. Some of those lake boats are faster that some of the race boats;) So, we'll plan on posting all of the speeds, not just the winners.

I just got back from the site and we have over 1900 yards straight line room to run. So we are looking at 1/2 mile run and 1/2 shutdown. The Army, DNR, State & Columbia County people that were there yesterday are all supportive of the event, and doing everything they can to make sure it all goes smoothly.

Thanks to Nick, Dixon, Wally, Johnny B & Allen for trying to destroy my liver last night. Oh, and for all the help too!

I will start another thread will all of the "official" details when we get a little closer. The dates are 6-7 June. We are looking at starting the shootout about 8am on Saturday the 6th. After that (on Saturday) will be practice and testing for racing Sunday the 7th. Sunday's racing should start somewhere between 11am & noon.
