Bridgeport on NOS

Has anyone ever done it? If so, exactly what system did you use? Where can I buy it? How hard is it to install? Will I blow up my motor?
There is a 280 picking on me and I want to beat him with my 2.4! I cant hang with him on take-off or mid-range, but top end seems to be about the same. I've done every modification that I know to do, but he's kicking my rear end. The thing that hurts the most is its a heavier boat.
I've got a 2.5 I could put on it, but that is out of the question. I want to whip this 2.5L with my 2.4L.
I've never had any dealings with Nitrous so I need all the help I can get. Thanks___Jason A.

And YES you can and will fry a motor if you don;t use a tried and proven system,,,, Call Chuck Goodman, here's in Benton Louisiana, and wrote the book on how to run nitrous properly,,, hell he's melted a ton on aluminum getting it right,,,! He delveloped the Nitrox system...


you try and pump a 2.4 on juice on a heavy hull and you're asking for problems.....

Check out the Nitrox website..... BUt if you have a 2.5, think about the money differential required,,,,,, a new juice system on a stock motor, old bearings, rings etc.... may be trouble.

The above advice about Nitrox Injections is dead on . If you havent got a good handle on running spray on a outboard .Chuck s systems are almost plug and play if you do exactly what he tells you to do.

My 2 cents worth is. KEEP THE SYSTEM MAINTAINED RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good connections , fuel lines , fittings, filters, relays. Stay on top of head your head gaskets and keepem fresh .

Johnny, I'm a long way from Mobile. I'm from the Florence, Muscle Shoals area. Pickwick Lake on the Tennessee River.
Patches, the boat is a 1991 two seater Mirage-550LBS. It will run around 100mph with a 28 pitch ET @7400rpms.(If the tach is right)

Best thing to do, iz to cut tha chase and call ol' Chuck. He know's just about ever configuration there is for your application, and more...

old rings are great for a nitrous motor. the butt gap is wider, so your rings don't fuse together and pop off the top of the piston while you're spraying. now i don't know how the pistons and rods will hold up, but strictly rings, you're better off with nitrous if they're a little loose. if you're gonna spend money whooping some ass, throw some forged internals and a ported head in the 2.5, then spray it. get some real ass whoopage going.:reddevil:

Try a better prop! Anybody can prop for top end, but to get the holeshot and brutally pull away from him would be quite a statement. Try a Yamaha drag, drop down a pitch or two. If his boat is heavier, there's no reason he should be beating you. If you get out in front, he'll need a lot of water to catch up again. :D

My Bridgeport has no trouble pulling hard to 80 mph at 8000 rpm in 800 feet, and that's all-stock, with stock heads and thick "200" gaskets that only yield 115 psi compression.

Prop it to spin and let the motor live. :D

Seriously; get an engine builder who knows what they are doing, port it, machine it, and go pick on the 280's. Nitrous is just gonna wreck alot of equipment, and when you're done you're going to have a larger repair bill than just building it up correctly in the first place. Good Luck!

Seriously; get an engine builder who knows what they are doing, port it, machine it, and go pick on the 280's.
I've done that, and it's not the 280's I like to pick on, it's the 1200 hp blown alcohol boys I like to embarrass.... and if I had the funds right now I'd like to take your 2 liter bridgeport and REALLY make em look silly--- 122 cubes of insanity against 600+ cubes of brute muscle, how much fun is that???

The motor I'm running is not the one I intended to run! I threw this thing together last year out of a box of crap. The exhaust chest has been gutted, which may be why I dont have the take off I need. The pistons are ART's that I milled out to the later model specs with the big windows. I put this powerhead on while building my 260.
Last year I picked on this guy and this year he bought a 280. Now his head is as big as that 280! He says that its gonna take a 2.5 to beat his 2.5, and that pisses me off. He knows I've got the other motor, but I dont want to give this guy the satisfaction of saying "he had to change to a bigger motor to beat me". I'm sure you all understand my position here.
I have a bone stock BP under my bench that I've thought about trying. Maybe It could get me that take-off power I need.

I have a couple of wheels you can try. Heck I even got a 2.5 we could hang on there but that would be defeatin tha purpose wouldn't it. I have the same boat as the 280 guy and I have raced some 2.4 on light boats without NOS and a couple of em gave me a descent run. Find some bottom end in that 2.4 and the race will be close but may not be enuff depending on how well set up he is. Let me know when tha race is gonna go down, I hafta come up and watch :thumbsup:

Are the problems with nitrous and 2 strokes the big hp shots? What about the small 50-75 hp shots? I always had good luck with nitrous on cars when I was safe and less than 75-150 hp. It was when I went big hp 200-250 that stuff broke. I have been wanting to play with nitrous on my 2.4 but only a small setting. 50 -75 hp of course a goodman set up.
