I have clarions in some boats now and havent been totally happy with them and when I called to see about one that blew up I was told that the wait is over 7 months to fix and a $100 first...so I was shopping on ebay and now im totally confused, and who in the hell is pyle ? never heard of them before today, but they sound good and priced right cheap..

PYLE of *****........ Off brand wal-mart stuff that won't last especially in a boat.

Stick with the name brand stuff. I prefer Alpine and I believe they have marine models.

Scott,

Were the Clarion's that failed the Waterproof ones? Just bought one of them....Hope it's not junk. :(

I have a pyle amp and it works but I got what I paid for. I am not a big fan of the clarion head units when I upgrade I will be buying a sony head unit we have the least warranty issues with them. JBL makes good speakers for the price and I have heard good things about the rockford fosgate 6.5 size speakers.

yes they were ... 3 of them had catastrophic board failure !!
3 still work good though, so its a 50 - 50 shot as I count it..

Scott, one word: Alpine. Speaking of which, we'll have a feature article up soon on a full stereo install using an iPod as the head unit. Much more versatile than a standard head unit, and a cleaner install without cutting up the dash. Stay tuned.

I agree with Alpine being a great choice, but if it is going to be located in an area it is bound to get wet, JBL has a solution:

The black box gets mounted in a dry area and the remote goes where you want it. there is even a version with a built-in hard drive to load your music onto.

I myself am an Alpine fan. I had to buy a small barge to tow behind my Dutchman to put the Klipsch Cornerhorns on, though!:D

If you are looking for low budget check out BOSS. They are cheap but I bought their unit with remote and a pair of speakers and for $150.00 it is not a bad unit. It is a wired remote so I mounted the unit up under the dash with the remote velcroed to the dash and I can't complain.

NOT SONY! I put a waterproof marine unit in a couple of years ago, the control buttons started failing after one year.

BTW, the local audio shop sold me an amplified antenna that hides under the passenger side of the dash so no need to mount an external antenna. That worked great - requires power so I wired it to the ignition side of the keyswitch.

For the money it would be awful hard to beat an alpine head unit with basline db series Polk audio speakers...

i just put an Alpine head unit in my boat and JBL Marine 6x9s.. just finished the install early last week actually.... sound is incredible... crisp, clear, and the 6x9s have damn good bump too them down low for not having any subs.

I have had several they where all junk, especialy Pyle. I bought a Jensen Marine MSR3007 radio which was forbidden growing up with car applications, but I am very happy. it reads the CD 45 seconds ahead so there is no skipping and has Ipod, multi remote hook ups, sirus and anything else you can think of. You'll have to get splitters for the rca out puts. I have 1-6 channel 2000w amp running 4 6x9's, 4 51/4's and 2 10" subs. Sounds great!

For amps & speakers Jlaudio by a country mile, comes standard in Viking Yachts. Head unit is your choice

I have all JBL stuff in my boat and love it. Been in for 3 years now with no problems. MR17 headunit, two 6.5" speakers, and two 6x9s in the rear.
