Hello,

I was really hoping that one of you briliant Evinrude minds would be able to help me with a on going problem

1995 Evinrude 115HP Engine:
Rebuilt Over Last Winter NOT BY ME

Results:

Engine will start and run for period of time before it dies unless you squeez the bulb and prime the system full of fuel again.

I have checked all the usual suspects that the manual sugests.

The vacuum before the fuel pump is correct, but the outgoing fuel pressure is almost non existant above an idle.

I removed the pulse fitting from the crankcase and it seemed to operate correctly as the manual states.

I would assume that you should not be able to blow thru the pulse fitting into the crankcase and hear air escaping somewhere else?????

That is exactly whats going on, when I blow through the pulse fitting there is no restriction what so ever and I hear air escaping.

My thoughts are

The crankcase halves are not sealed properly after the rebuild??

The Reeds are letting air escape?????

Am I close or just in left field????????

PLEASE HELP ME

Thank you,

Brian

i dont think your suppose to be able to blow into the valve (ive never messed with one, i run an electric fuel pump). if you did blow into it the air will seep out the reeds or out the cyl/exhaust this is normal. i think your valve is faulty which is why your fuel pump isnt pumpin (pump could be smoked to) my .02

Yes, air should pass both ways. The fuel pump works from the pulses of the crank case.

Sounds like you may have fuel pump problems. If it were leaking from the crank case, there would be oil in the area of the leak.

When the boat was purchased it came with a VRO system that had the oil portion disconnected and pre mix was used.

I performed the vacuum and outgoing pressure checks on the fuel portion of the VRO.

Same results Vacum good, fuel pressure bad.

I removed the VRO all together and decided to install a brand new "old style" evinrude diaphram pump in its place.

Same results Vacum good, fuel pressure did not increase as with the stated rpm as the book points out.

Removed this pump, "Ticked Off" and installed a electric fuel pump regulated to the corrrect psi.

Engine ran great at mid and wide open throttle but would load up at idle in the no wake zone and stall each and every time.

That would work so I took off the electric pump reomoved the engine from the boat and now will look to remove the power head to figure out what is going on.

The engine was not run in presence of the buyer, so he as no idea if ran.

What is the world is causing this??????

Any Help Is Greatly Appreciated

Thank you

ALSO IF YOU HAVE A MANUAL. THERE IS A TEST FOR A TEST FORM THE TANK. WE HAVE BEEN FINDING THAT THE ANTI SIFON VALVE HAS BEEN THE ROOT OF A LOT OF THESE TYPE PROBLEMS. ALSO THE PRIMER BULB.

my electric will cause the same thing with too much fuel pressure (over 6lbs), what did you set your pressure at?

I put a brand new fuel bulb and line on the engine and ran it on a remote style 6 gallon fuel tank with the vent open. The same problem happened.

It feels like the engine will only run on the amount of fuel introduced by the bulb. When the fuel runs out you have to re prime the system and this goes on an on.

The fuel pressure was locked at 3-5PSI, still to much at idle for proper operation.

SO CONFUSED......

I would put a holly red on it.plug the pulse limiter with a brass plug.
