Hi !!
Glad to find this forum !! I posted this question on another forum and got a few responses but no real answers. I once had one and would like to know more about it.Who designed this hull (I understand it was not a Leach design)?? What other names or similar hulls was this design produced--rapidcraft,jet boat engineering(jimmy Johnson) and ???
I have heard there were lawsuits about royalties as well as design copies etc ??? All details would be appreciated, thanks in advance !!!

Not the same animal. Advantage boats has mold's to one. The used to race it in the Parker 300. Very low profile, but you know that. The small tunnel like that are a thing of the past, it's all 22' and up these days.

The first designer of the Scorpion was Youngblood. The Rappid Craft Riot was also a modified version of the Youngblood Scorpion tunnel. Eliminator also copied it and I seem to recall a law suit about that also? East Vally still makes them and they look sweet! Sam Baker would know for sure. I have an old Hot Boat I remembered reading about all this and i just went and found it thats how I got my information. Hears a link to the Youngblood evolution! This guy had talent:thumbsup: Check out the first Pic from 1969 that boat looks WAY beyond its time. http://www.youngbloodjetboats.com/

No dude they are not the same boat. Jay, East Valley is 20 minutes from me. I've seen his 21' up close and personal. I have also seen the Advantge of the same name up close and personal. Not even close to being the same. Jays is a 21, the other is a 20. Eliminator and Advantage had the same boat.

Okay sorry It looks like I dont have my facts straight.:iagree: I went to a drag fourm and they were talking about this. The guy was saying that East West,s Tunnel is a design inspired from the Tunnel that was first built by Jimmy Youngblood thats it. The rest was information that was googled. If it was on the internet it must be true!:D:icon_bs: Sorry for the confusion. Those hulls at EW have you seen an outboard one? That black one on there web page looks sweet!

For sure. I'm sure it's just the name. The eliminator/advantage is a much better looking boat. There was one of Jays in the "hulls over 20" section.

I thought Ron Ehde designed it for Eliminator around 1983/4 to replace the 19 Daytona. Bob Leach, Fred Bowden and I flew up to his shop in northern Calif. in Leach's Kingair to look at the plug. Never was as good as the Daytona.

wow...great info !!! So was there any truth to the rumor of a lawsuit dealing with royalties not being paid to the designer ?? I felt my daytona performed/handled better(even considering the power differance between my 2 boats)The scorpion did not handle rough water as well IMO. Great history/info.....keep it coming !!!

The Adantage model was the same as the eliminator and was called the Banchee. They set a speed record with it at the parker 300. 80+ with a small bock chevy and an alpha drive. They had or have a poster of it in the show romm in Havi. Very small cockpit and very low to the water, lower than the old daytona. There was a drag boat back in the 80's called the Animal, I think that was the Scorpion or Banchee.
