Have a 04 250 xs won't start, cranks fine fires for a second or two and shuts down. It's on a twin application so so far tried swapping ECU and trigger between engines and no help. The problem is definetly spark!
Anyone have any guesses, it's my birthday today and all I want to do is go boating.
Thanks

I have seen the ignition switch short out on many occasions, try disconnecting the black with yellow trace and see if your spark comes back. The easiest way is at the key switch.Does it have smartcraft gauge setup?

I don't think you have a ingnition problem. you need to get someone to check your fuel and air pressure.later Larry D

Thanks guys, it is my brothers boat and we are here working on it. It does have smartcraft, no faults are showing up on LCD gauges. He is absolutly convinced that it is spark. We are going to try the black with yellow trace at the key switch. Will let you know how it turns out.

Unplugged black w/yellow tracer, still no spark. Bypass neutral saftey switch, still no spark. Any other thoughts???

It sounds like the compressor might have a bad reed. Pull a spark plug and check the spark. If you do not have spark then check the fuse that is in the little black plastic box on the lower back starboard side of the motor.

Checked all fuses and they are fine.

Well, I'm back home and never did get the boat out. Still no spark. Is there a way to check the compresser for output or would it be easyer to swap from the other engine.
Thanks to everyone that helped.

Make sure you spin the engine over a minimum of 3 revalutions when you are checking for spark. The computer will not send fire to the coils/CDM's until the engine turns over 2.5 to 3 turns to allow the compressor to build up enough air pressure to adjust the air and fuel pressure correctly. Also check your kill switch.:smiletest:

Had a similar case.
Found ignition switch dropped purple live feed back to engine while in crank position.
That one had me stumped for a while.
Fuel pressure would drop as you started cranking.
Lead us down the wrong path.
