Rick just got the new boat too. :(

Hang in there Rick, maybe we'll see ya at "Smokin In The Cove" end of this month.

Good news is he "only" suffered a broken nose and a scratch on his arm, but the bad news is his new boat looks to be a total loss.

he was getting it dialed in too...his last full pass was a 9.09 so he was getting it down on the number.

I was pulling out on the rope and just missed it but it was a lot like Smokin Joe's wreck. boat went up and over and came in nose first. good thing he was strapped in.

he's a great guy to say the least. hope he recovers quickly.

In the grand scheme of things, boats can be replaced, but people can not.

I am glad to hear he is (relatively) well.

I just got off the phone with Rick, he said to tell everyone he is ok. He seemed to be in good spirits. I'm just glad he is hear to tell us about it. He stayed strapped in the capsule and harness did it's job, he said he had a cut on his arm and a black eye and that was all. He should be headed home today. He said he would see us all in Malvern in a few weeks. He's one tough guy and I'm sure we'll see him running again before long. Best of luck to ya Rick, we'll see ya soon.

No broken nose (I was at the hospital) and just a scrape on the shin and black eye. But as Sam said the boat seems to be a loss, but then again I'm not a fibarglass guy. Just glad he's okay!!!!!.........Brad

Great. They had announced a broken nose at the race site. That's even better that nothing else had happened. Jack is pretty amazing at what he does so I guess I'd hate to say the boat is a total loss, but the amount of repairs that would need to be made would make me think it would be better to start with a clean mold and build a new boat rather than take the time to repair this one.

Either way, it was a shame to see that boat just sitting on the bank until after the race. It served as a sad reminder every time I raced past it. It wasn't easy to stay focused.

As sad as it is, you have to say that the safety equipment did its job. He was strapped in with an air system and that definitely had a lot to do with his coming out "relatively" unscathed. The boat sustained major front end damage (can't tell from the pictures what kind of damage it sustained to the inside/bracing, etc.).

Bill Henderson is truly one of the greatest guys I've met boat racing. He is always there to help anybody with anything. I must agree with all that's been said about him on this post.

Here's the aftermath.

Now without getting the LPB bandwagon all stirred up, are these boats
blowover prone? I think thats two so far this year, is it in the design or
because they are getting lighter and lighter? Or simply driver error?

David

My best wishes to Rick for a speedy recovery.

People called me Rick for the first couple of months that I owned his old SS2000, as I did not immediately remove his name. An honor I did not deserve.

Dutch , I'm not 100% sure about the new boat ,but i understand that some of the rope racers are not running trim cyliners . Instead they use a preset jacking bolt . It's my understanding that both Joe and Rick where running this type set up when Joe had his accident . I don't know about this boat ,but I'm sure someone will speak up on this point . Glad to hear your Okay:thumbsup: I talked to rick for a little while today on the phone today and he was cheerful and talked about getting another q-shot and getting back out on the liquid quarter mile. what can you say the man loves boat racing. I definitely wouldn't call Q-shots blowover specials. Joe's boat rigged was under 1150 lbs with him in it. Ricks boat was close to 1200 lbs with nos and him in it. They were both running a fixed trim system.....No down button. I run my Q-shot in ODBA in pro fuel at 1250 lbs but I run a functional trim system and have gotten a little happy on the up button and had to bump the down a time or two. Lighter boats obviously are a little more sensitive to trim angle.:iagree:

We all know this, and are greatful we did not lose another fellow boater, but perhaps a thread dedicated to a discussion of boats that have inherant liabilities would be a more proper platform for discussion. JMHO

THIS IS WHY WE HAVE A T.V. PROGRAM CALLED "WHEN THINGS GO WRONG" IT HAPPENS AND THERE IS NOT MUCH THAT YOU CAN DO AT THOSE SPEEDS. I HAVE BLOWN OVER AT MUCH SLOWER SPEEDS THAN THE BLOW OVERS THIS YEAR.
WHAT WE NEED TO REMEMBER IS, THIS IS WHY YOU ALWAYS WERE YOUR SAFTY GEAR AND BE AS CAREFULL AS YOU CAN. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AND WHEN IT DOSE YOU ARE ALONG FOR THE RIDE ALL THE WAY TILL THE END.:o

Thanks to all that have asked about me and prayers given. I thank GOD for giving me another day!

I am ok just a little bruised. People let me tell you SAFETY EQUIPMENT!!!!! Without it I would not be here today.

As Andy said I was running fixed trim, but had planned to change that as the mid I was going to use was at the race, oh well on the next one, LOL. Did it cause the blowover??? Not sure but it could have helped. As nightmare mentioned he watched it, there was some things going on with the water that I believe caused the wreck.

I had made several passed running very low 9's with not a problem, there was no wind so that wasn't the issue.

WOW what a weekend!!!!!!!! I don't even know where to start. Rick's OK and that's all that matters. It's hard to see your friend crash like that, after we got him in the ambulance I just stood there on the ramp for a minute and felt like puking. As Rick said his safety equipment did it's job and the boat's cell is completely in tact. Jack does a great job in that area of the boat. Thanks so much to everyone that helped, there were so many I don't know where to start. I have several pics that I will get posted later today, it was real late when I got back last night. Thanks again to everyone, Bill
