Need to know the best way to strenghten transom. I am going to install one quarter inch plate(aluminum) on outside of transom where the back is flush and plan on using four knee braces inside on each of the mounting bolts for jack plate but where do I tie in the knee braces on a valero to, from the studs inside the back of the transom to what?

making the kneebraces out of the same material, and running them as far forward as practicable, bolting them to the stringers. The transom in my Eliminator is done this way, and had a V-8 on it for most of it's life.

Just don't drill lightening holes in that transom!!!

Don't you have wood stringers you can bolt them to?
I would use the epoxy method for bonding the bolts to the wood. Increased fastening area and seals the wood.

I havent been under the deck yet. Ill be removing the tank tomorrow and the existing motor. I wont drill any new hoes in the transom as that increases the problem of stess fractures. I'm not sure on the stringer configuration yet. Ill be under the deck tomorrow? Keep you posted, thnks
