A friend of mine has this Hydrostream Vector. Drove it once then packed it away for a couple of years. Its pretty rough. I have no idea if the engine runs. What do you guys think its worth?:)

Well if you really want to get the true value of this boat you must know what you have. The core should be checked by taking samples from the inside, some times the old hammer rap can be deceiving because of glass thickness and wet core vs. rotted core etc. Every stream was built a bit different. So it is very important that the seller/buyer do these very basic tests so they know what they really have or it can come back to haunt you in the long run. I am speaking from experiance, i have seen this mistake happen a few times.;)

Fieldzy,
If there were another 'stream I could have, this would be the hull....proportionally larger than the Viper but with the same look and stance.......the slightly deeper cockpit and extra 2ft on the bow definitely attracts me to that boat. Rock sold his beautiful vector to another local and I've had a chance to cruise with him....what a beautiful boat it is. Anyway.....better to be absolutely sure up front because if you think about it, your'e betting your life on the integrity of that hull.
Any1 have a guesstimation on the vintage of that 200 hanging on it?? This is most likely a rookie observation but does the LU have a cone with no LWP?

Sort of a mini cone and someone has made a Channel for the water pickups. Its probably A MOD VP case.

Unfortunatly , it looks as this boat has been neglegted and is going to need some serious attention . If the price where really fair ,and your up for a project . It can be saved , but will be very costly and labor intensive . Coar , Floor and Transome are going to be the first on the list . That slit on the pad tells me it's gotten water in it at some point ,and to be safe will need a full restoration. Rich Martin 018:cool:

On a lighter note if you look closely at the " boatman's checklist " sticker on the left, 7th line down you will see....
" Are you overloaded or overpowered?"
the latter portion makes me giggle a bit.......

Without a doubt that boat is saturated. It looks like it's been sitting there for a while and having a tarp on it will kill it even faster with all the moisture that built up under it. Throw in warm summer days and freezing winters and forget about it.
If a person has knowledge about restoring and can do it cheaper than johnnynewboater then it would have value to that person. My Ventura II that I sold a few years back was a disaster when I bought it. I did a full resto to the best of my knowledge at the time and had a blast with the boat for 10 yrs then sold it and it's still going today.
It kills me to see so many Streams beat up and put away wet but they can be given another life. Rivermans Viper is a good example.

that boat looks like it need everything. does anyone wlse see the cracks around the drain hole or is just me? A fair offer would be $400 or so. That motor (if cowls are correct) is from the very early 80s.

On the bright side the boat is complete...........windshield,frame,etc.
At least it's untouched and you have most of the pieces otherwise missing on most project boats.

perfect winter project if you get it for 3-500
sweet trim system too
just figure you gotta put a lil core and a few stringers in it, no floor, 1 seat, straiten up the chines, junk the merc :D, sand, fill, prime, paint and the list goes on...
if you get it start a new thread and keep us posted on the rebuild!!!

Tell him to look on the transom, upper right outside, see if the numbers are readable in the glass, that will tell ya year and model, etc.

the pad and the capacity plate prove its a vector.

I think somewhere in the 300 to 500 dollar range is about right, if the trailer doesn't fall apart on the trip home. This will be more of a labor of love than a sound economic venture, as you will have more invested into parts alone than going out and getting a better example of one. These darn boats are like a lot of things; you fall in love with the idea of having one, see one for cheap, and fool yourself into believing it won't take too much work. You can go right down the list of things..cars, boats, airplanes, houses..you are always better off buying the best example that you can afford that you can find, rather than a fixer. This is not to say don't buy the boat, these are just my personal observations on this kind of stuff. If you do get it, by all means keep us informed..these are great boats when properly restored!:D Can anyone out there tell me when "sound economic venture" and "boat" were EVER mentioned in the same paragraph?

If you buy a junker, you can rebuild it and make it the way you want - different colour gel, centre steer, gauge layouts, custom features etc. That is if you want to do a bunch of work - otherwise benski's notion is correct.

My post was in responce to this post :p
As in the old sayin the 2 happiest days of my life, :smiletest:#1 the day I bought my boat, #2 the day I sold my boat!
Sound economics & boat ownership don't always go together :o

If I baught this any of you guys be willing to answere some really stupid questions to an idiot about a restore project? Would love to try one someday....looks like a good candidate
If you dont want it I am looking for a project vector. Where is the boat at? If its in Canada that is too far unless its near Detroit. jsorg33950@aol.com

It's probably not more than 5 hours from Detroit. And its probably only a couple of hours from the best place for restoration, Hydrostream Canada.

Read up... Riverman did a great job on keeping up with his progress and information on his restore of his viper and it came out awsome...
this vector looks like a great project and it can be an awsome ride if done right... nice new white paint and maybe a little blue gel something like how it is now but a nice white motor on the back:thumbsup:
