Looking for some information on a BRT 24. I see they look like a Superboat 24 copy. Who actually built the BRT 24's? How is the design? Are they a solid hull? Any help would be great as I was talking to a guy this past weekend who had one for sale, seemed like a good deal but I know nothing about these boats. I started snooping around and found quite a few for sale, all with O/B power. Are they balanced well? Any help would be great - Thanks to all in advance!

I thought maybe you were talking about the Checkmate 24 BRX!

Was recently told that BRT stands for "Blue Water Racing Team", and was also told the hull is very similiar to a Banana 24, can anyone verify this? I searched the forums for BRT and found a few threads but no real info on the boats.

My brother and I saw the boat being built in the mid 80's in Boston Mass. It was a one man shop...

There was a 24 BRT that raced in a couple of calm water OPA races called Nu-Wave Marine. It's for sale on OSO for something absurd.. The owner claims it will hang with any 28 Pantera in the rough:rolleyes: I think they were made in Mass or Rhode Island?? They are cool little "offshore" boats.

Maybe I can shed some light on the BRT's.

BRT is an acronym for Blue Water Racing Team.

They were built in the 80's by Paul Barros in New Bedford, Mass. I belive the molds were later sold to a guy named Mike Becall and I lost track after that.

Signature molds were also flying around during this time and may have been connected with the BRT molds as well under the same builder.

As for the boat, they are great looking old Miami "flat deck" design hulls.

The Banana boat is the twin brother to the Cigarette 24 and has no relation to the 7' beam hulls like the BRT.

The BRT is a cousin to the to the Pantera, Superboat, Monza, Exotic and Signature hull. These were the hulls with lower freeboard and 7' beam.

A narrower hull means faster, but you give up stability. A 24 BRT, Superboat, Pantera will beat a Bannana or a Cig 24 with the same power in a flat calm, but the wider beam will prove better in the ruff ocean.

All in all if you can get a hold of a BRT then go for it! I have never heard a negative thing about them and they have done well on the race circuit over the years.

They are too low for stand up bolsters, but a sit down rig would be cool.

The BRT I was thinking on driving to look at is in Smithtown Long Island, she is Red with a V8 Evinrude hanging off the back on a setback bracket. Anyone know this boat? The onlt pic I have seen of it so far it has a cover on it, but it looks like a red version of the snakebite boat above - and the evinrude is dark blue not white.

My BRT is in the resto stage. It's red with white interior. rebuilding the motor at this stage. I found it on Craigslist about an hour south of home a year ago. $500 OBO. Needless to say I jumped on it. It had not been in the water since 92, buried in someone's back yard. His brother the original owner died and the wife wanted it out of there. Floors were solid, transom solid, hull solid. Six inches of dirt and weeds in it. Upholstry shot. It has an 87 2.4L 220 EFI Mariner. The hull came out great after some buffing. Cabin needs to be redone. I have stripped it. Replaced the teleflex steering with a Seastar sytem. Reupholstered the barrell style seats, fabricated and upholstered the sunpad.

Nice to hear the BRT is back in production. Best of luck. Based on this boats reputation, you should be very successful. I have had mine since '88. Running a 200 2.4 with a Gil setback. Boat is solid and looks as good as the day I bought it (almost). I had written to Paul Barros when I was looking to make some cosmetic modifications to the boat, and he was extremely helpful. He also sent me some prototype drawings of a 27' version he was planning. That would have been a nice step up.

Looked under the cover of the boat yesterday and saw that Gil bracket is showing signs of serious corrosion. Looking to repair or replace. If anyone is familar with this bracket, I would appreciate any advice.

Junk the Gil Bracket and put a Stainless Marine Bracket on. That is what i did on my Progression 24 and it worked out great.
