I need some help here , been working on this 235 gt, and can't seem to figure out the problem. I tested power packs, stator, coils, and timer base and found that I had no volts on left side of timer, I tested it with DVA meter . I replaced timer with a brand new one and still no volts on left side. So I thought I got a defected part, I sent part back to factory and they sent a new one, took amost 3 weeks. I put part on and still no volts on just left side. Repair manual states it is to have 5 volts on each side or replace timer base. Has anyone ever had this problem ? I have tryed every thing and can't figure this problem out. Anyone close to Land O lakes FL. that could help.

It's a crossflow...... not a looper.
Brian, are you saying the second new timer base has no voltage on the same side???

Yes, when I turn the motor over with out pluging the power packs in. I tested both sides with the DVA meter . left side has 0. right side has 4

Well, If you are sure you are testing the timer correctly, then the only other things that can cause this is either cranking speed is too slow or the center magnet on the flywheel is weak. That magnet cannot be replaced. Call around to your local repair shops and see if anyonehas a spare flywheel you can try.
If your flywheel has been off alot, the hammering from popping it loose can weaken the magnets.
One last thought is maybe a fried powerpack is taking out the timer bases.

Make sure you tested your shift switch...a faulty one will kill one bank.

I also meant to say what Flaybum said...If you aren't spinning that sucker fast...it can affect one bank as well...Once I had not spark on the starboard..started the engine and all six came to life...go figure. I have heard that happened to others on a number of occasions..gus

I tested the timer base as soon as I put it on, before pluging it in to the power pack. I have not plugged the power pack in on the new timer base yet. Could it be the flywheel, when I first pulled the flywheel off every thing look like new , but center part that fits into the timer base . It looks like a sleeve with 2 slots in it with a magnet underneath. 1 side was up about a 1/8 higher than the other so I tapped it down with a hammer. But both sides are the same now.

Check your timing before you run the piss out of it.... last thing you need is to fry a powerhead from too much timing. Since you changed the flywheel, the timing can be off now.

I ran the boat today, I don't think my speedo and tach are accurate. I had the tach up to 5000 , that was full throttle. Speedo showed 50 mph I now that was wrong. I know I was going faster than that . What is the best way to set the timing ? In the repair manual it says to put it in a test tank with a minimum of 5000 rpms. If my tach is right , do I need to advance the timing to get more rpms ? Flabum thanks for the help:thumbsup:

You need to set the timing to what that motor calls for. Too much timing is worse than not enough.
