drain the tank pull out plugs Oil her down with straight 2 stroke oil turn by hand about 10 times to relube everything mix it a heavy 30 or so :1 with fresh gas and oil and get her up to temp ASAP... then once that is been done I would look at doing a full series of checks on her, which MAy go as far as a full tear down and rebuild... chances are though if you get her running and its running fine its OK to go again.. anything odd id do a full hurah on it. .

one of my marine friends is doing 2 engines now that were sunk.... it is very important to get them up and running asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! usually the electronics are going to take a chit....... might be ok to use to get running though......... he also took loose the bleeder lines on the outside of the block and pumped 32 to 1 gas through them.... they lube the crank bearings.... this is just what he told me he was doing....... he told me they needed to get it running in 3 hours of from the time it gets out of the water...........
i talked to him the next day and one ecu was dead.....
they ended up tearing them all the way down.......BUT insurance was paying for it...... also a merc dealers don't take many chances!!!!!!!!
good luck

If it has mud or sand in it, you'll ruin everything if you start it up. I've had to do this for others several times, I always totally disassemble and WD-40 everything as it's being torn apart. The only time I've started one up after sinking is if it didn't go to the bottom such as cables holding it up or the boat didn't go all the way under. If it went to the bottom you can bet it has mud and or sand in it.

If'n it was runing, I'd pull the plugs, pour oil in it an turn it over a few times without the plugs in it. I'd try to squirt oil in the front side too and turn it over a few times.
Then i'd get it apart ASAP to clean and oil everything. Then start inspecting parts for damage.
Glad to hear you are ok, good luck with it.
I assume this is the motor you are talking about:

Make sure you pull the bottom cap asap... i do not care how long you run it the water will sit in there... I read the post that you went in at speed, and i can tell you from experience there is a good chance it has a bent rod so i would recommend pulling the heads and checking piston pop out before you try to start it
