Roark says the "ski" bottom is 2mph faster than the "mod-vp" bottom, but that the modvp is easier to drive and set for a corner (remember, thats what he designed them for)

I heard it, but never believed it was true. When I had 3 STV Mod VP's at the same time I didn't think there was much difference. The yellow one in my Sig here has the roundy round bottom as well as my former red/yellow/orange one that HHB currently has for sale here. My solid red one that's changed hands several times had the ski racer. The roundy round felt a tad more solid to me at speed. I never tried to turn any of em goin' fast.
If you're looking around at used boats I'd be a lot more concerned with condition of the boat and personal preferences like color than which bottom. As a side note, I always thought the roundy round bottom was a WHOLE LOT better lookin' at the front.

Knowing my old Collins Mirage 4 seater would run 124 with a 300X, at only 6600 and was very stable, I was tooling around the idea of buying a RR and trying the same, and shooting for a big #, just wanted a few ideas of what bottom to look for.

300x is a heavy motor as you know, but makes good power .I truly think a STV will be faster... Call Jack, get him to build you a boat and you will see.....
