i have 2 last questions for you.i replaced my 115 with a 140 mercury never had it out yet,and ran it on a set of muffs for a couple minutes.put boat away came out later and had a small puddle of dark oil under skeg.due you think it might have been 2 stroke oil from exaust?was coming out right side water pickups.ran motor again but shifted forward/backward recheck no oil.also i have my 115 on site asking 1450.obo due you think to much?what due you think is a fair price?is there a way i can post 1 or 2 pics? thanks for all your help

If it's coming from water pickups it's REAL unlikely it's from the exhaust. I'm not sure what you mean by "recheck no oil", but I think I'd get that gearcase pressure tested. Hard to guestimate what an engine that age is worth without some evaluation of condition. As far as posting the pics, hit the link in my signature and it'll show you how to host em offsite.

i recheked my floor later and found no oil after shifting with motor running.i have new gear oil in lower unit(merc synthetic)dark jade green color,no hrs on new oil.oil found on floor was like used motor oil?very dark(black).

Was the motor winterized? I have seen the oil from winterization come out long after its been run and dewinterized. Rick

my motor leaked the same dark oil from the prop & down the skag.
it was because I was runnung 25-1 mix oil in it after the rebuild,

The kicker here is that he said the oil is coming from the water pickups and NOT the exhaust outlet.;)......... not likely caused by rich oil mixture.
