I use the Pennzoil synthetic blend and am gettng more than a thousand hours per powerhead. You need to check the oil pump drive gears yearly and new hoses every three or four. I change pumps with powerheads.

My exhaust tuner after a thousand hours was almost spotless, with just a black stain. My piston tops had almost no buildup [I did use Ring Free once every other year]. My powerhead could have gone another year but it had a little scuffing in #6 even though compression and leakdown were still good.

The blend is recommended over the straight synthetic in steel bore engines. I buy mine from Walmart.
