promax 225 stator

while checking timing on my 1999 merc 225 promax i noticed the stator had one of the copper windings , over the timing arm on triger was black in color and the rest are shiny red color , dose this mean i should be looking for a new stator and if so , who's got a good deal on a new stsor thanks any help will be appreciated thanks, Jorge

Yes you need a new or good used stator, you will blow a regulator and possibly a tack if you keep running it. A new 40 amp stator for a PM is a little over $400.00, you can find a good used one for 1/2 price.
