I'd like to pull the side covers off my CLE before painting but wasn't sure what's needed for re-sealing these two plates. It looks like some blue Permatex or RTV stuff is gooped behind there right now...... Does it take new orings, gaskets or just a sealant? It's a 2 hole CLE.

Thanks

The stock seal is an O-ring placed in the pre-cut groove in the housing behind the plate. It has to be the proper size and length to fit.The diameter should be large enough that 1/2 the O-ring in above the housing surface. You can secure it in place with 3M gasket sealer or simple contact cement. Even silicone might work. Just a little will do as the O-ring is the actual seal. We have used spaghetti seal material also that comes in rolls. Either will do if properly put in place.

How much pressure can be lost if that seal leaks?

mine were both leaking and i still manage to wrap the guage around haha

20 plus psi

how do i reduce the pressure. my motor is dry stacked on one side (?) and that water line goes to the port side head and then the heads are connected then they all drain from the starboard head down.

Just need to dump more water from the powerhead, but up to 25 psi wouldn't bother me, as long as temp is ok. Sounds like your hoses are in stock configuration.

mine have no covers, cle's with the pickups on the boat ive never had a problem with cooling or pressure its 5 to 10 max ,the pickup holes in the cle are filled and sanded smooth , ive been running this way for 5 years.never see over 135 temp. 0 pressure at idle water still comes out of 1 tube at idle, both at speed, impellers look great(SIERRA IMPELLERS) GOOD STUFF. some people dont like sierra products ,i do and had very good luck with them, and install them in many boats i repair and reliabilty is above oem.thanks.
