im new here boys, im usually on a jet ski but just had to get a small boat to have fun. i dont know if ill be runnin since im looking for a motor as we speak. i bought a 98 raptor copy of a LTV tunnel 18' . need steering but dont know what to go with dual cable or hydraulic. you guys are the pros im a newbie in the sport

You don't have much of a choice these days. I'm a big fan of dual cable on a v-bottom but merc ride-guide parts are few and far between and teleflex doesn't make their dual opposed rack anymore. I'm not very familiar with your boat but if it's a tunnel or Mod-vp style, hydraulic is the easiest. Now dump the ski and put a motor on that boat!:D

i found on ebay dual steering adapter kits for mercury is that something to look into, i hear you dave but i keep thinking that at high speeds if a hydraulic line fails im gonna eat it, maybe its the p----- cat in me thats talking but ive never gone that fast on water. hydraulic would be easier i just want the safest my family will ride along sometimes.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

a quality brand hydraulic system will be perfectly safe for you and your fam. Just make sure that it's installed correctly and the lines have been properly bled so there's little or no play.

I did nothing but destroy equipment all weekend...

on Saturday I destroyed the left head, and right head gasket... left me dead in the water and had to be towed in... Then on Sunday I ran out of gas, (didn't realize the gas sender was broken) and looks like I may have screwed something up in the carb when it was sucking from the bottom of the tanks....

gene and i one time ran out of gas about 630 pm on the way back from flamingo
way on the other side of nest key in Florida bay heading for black water sound
we found we could get some gas by leaning the boat over to one side lol
we would run for a while then run out we did that all the way back to the dock
and yes the fuel filter was full of water
i dont know how we even made it home
i thought the mosquitoes where going to have buffet on our butts

Been there many times... Dunno how many times I almost never made it back... You can get in some werd stuff out there really quickly! We threw a rod in my little whaler one day and were taking 2 stroke oil and rubbing it on ourselves to try to keep the 'skeetoes off...

Sorry to hear about the troubles dude. Hopefully she'll be up and running shortly. Otherwise it was a great day Saturday. Perfect weather. Too bad the Action was stuck at home. Had to ride in dad's boat. It was great to see everyone out there again. Always good people. If ya'll go down next weekend be carefull and have fun. I'll be in bimini.
