I am a newbie on the 3 cylinder stingers and want to buy one to put on my boat. Could someone give me a little info on these motors and how they are different from a standard motor. I know they were built from 1975 to 1980 but thats about it. A Johnson 75 Stinger is what I want.

Thanks
James

I know that the Stinger was a 15" motor, the 3 cylinder 70 was 20". I am pretty sure the Stinger had a physicaly smaller lower unit. I know it was generally understood to put out near 90 hp, so I assume that carbs, porting or something else was different, but I really don't know. Try the racing history forum--lots of people there who raced them and knew a lot more than me. Or the technical forum.

No, only special racing versions of the triple were more than the advertised horsepower. A Stinger is 75 hp, that's it.

not sure of the size. It is not mine but it was my neighbors for a bunch of years (maybe since new) until this year they gave it to Point Breeze Marina to sell for them. It was less than $2000.00 last i saw it. It is at the Point Breeze Marinas wynantskill NY outlet.

$2k is way too much unless it literally appears new

The stinger near me is a 65hp. I looked at it better today. It sits on the original crestliner as when new. they are both in great shape.

hey mike. I stopped in quick today and took a look. No trim, and I couldn't measure without a tape measure in the car. I spoke with a kid Larry, who is not exactly knowledgeable. The transom appeared a bit stressed to me. However,he said he would like to buy the hull for himself but not the motor??? So the asking price for the package is(boat, motor, trailer) $1500.00. Then he would buy the hull from you. He gave me these #'s 518 470-5633 a cell for Lisa. Say you got it from Larry. She works there. 518-283 3495 is the wynantskill store#

i had a regular 70 hp that has since been toasted then i found a 75 stinger. as far as i can tell the only differences were larger bored carbs and a high compression head (160+)
