My tuner broke about 1 inch down from the top. I mean completey off, like someone ripped it off. What could cause this and is it ok to weld it??? Thanks
Probably a casting flaw. You could weld it but it's likely to break there again. I would replace it.

If it's wunna' them G-Farce magical sheetmetal tuna's it's almost automatic that it's gonna break off........... just a matter of when. The good news is that it'll run just as fast broke' as it did in one piece.:D

Could one of you show me some pics of how a tuner is supposed to be installed,i`ve bought one and never installed one i`m putting it on a 96 promax 200 any help would be great!!
Pull the powerhead and it will be very obvious. Good luck.

If the tuner you bought is staggered at the bell or end the short side goes to the starboard side of the engine. (right side looking at the spark plugs or 1,3,5 ) Install with allen headed screws and use red loctite on the bolts. Should be 5/16" coarse thread bolts X 1 1/2" - 2" long...
good luck,
Jay

I just ran into a similar problem and didnt even know it. I pulled my power head off for unrelated matters and by chance looked down into my mid section and there was my tuner laying down at the bottom. I have owned my boat for a little over a year now and never noticed any change in sound/ power since i have owned it so i am thinking it was like this when i bought it. I hit it with the glass beader and took all the carbon build up off the inside and out of it and tig welded it back on. has anyone ever done this before and what were the results? the weld looked and felt pretty good. just wondering if i should replace the whole thing . also does anyone know what type of tuner this is?

Rock,
Norris is just jealous he don't have a G-Force in his motor...
BUT on a serious note:
I find that welds don't like high pitch harmonics that are created by a high rpm turning 2 cycle engines I've never seen one last long ( dirt bike are notorious for breaking expantion chambers welds thats the reason they are attached with slip fittings and held on with springs) , IMO a cast aluminum tuner on an outboard is the way to go..If I were going to replace that tuner I'd find a nice used stock Mercury tuner or buy a Bob's ...
Good luck,
Jay

basically junk? what is a good replacement? I know tuners dont have a LOT to do with performance but as far as dependability and performance what would it be?

Thanks for the info ,but my problem is the plate that the tuner is attached to in the pictures doesen`t look like the one that i have ...i see no way for me to attach the tuner, when i pulled the exhaust plate off .there is 2 stacks that have been cut and it looks like its made into the exhaust plate.is there a diffarent exhaust plate that will except the tuner and if so where can i get one???
