View Full Version : need a little help
I bought a 2.4 200 to replace my 2.0 that blew the other day and have made quite a mess. I was going to swap the power heads I got the whole engine but the trim unit and mid were in pretty ruff shape so i was going to swap well this bitch has been in the salt and has been on for quite sometime but anyway I was taking my time and heating and pring little by little and it appered to be coming off slowly this is the first time ive done this and was looking at a parts diagram, to begin with it didnt want to move at all and I had only taken off the 2 front bolts and all the other visable bolts holding it on so I went ahead and took out all the bolts that can be seen from the outside and i had already taken the lower off before I started this. And pry and pry and it was slowly starting to turn loose when pow I was having to pry mostly from the back because theres nowhere to pry on the front anyway now for the really bad part I obiously missed some bolts here or atleast one because the gd thing that poped wasent the ph coming loose it was the block cracking around a bolt that cant be seen from the top bottom or outside period. Im not sure if it can be repaired or not because I havent got the fking pos off yet. Im in the middle of basicly tearing the mid off because the salt has welded it on and I dont need it and im pissed but is there any need I was under the impression that all that could stay on and just pull the powerhead im just tring to get to that bolt to keep from causing anymore damage. I was going to pull the powerhead only not the plate and all that just the ph. I have worked on everthing and built engines from drag 4wheelers to n-14 cummings diesels but ive never seen anything be a bigger pain in the ass than this. Does anybody know the best way to get to this bolt if you have to take the damn thing apart form the bottom up I wouldnt call that pulling the powerhead id call that disambling it until all thats left is the powerhead.

Its got 10, 9/16, machine thread "nuts" that are all visible and accessible with tha cowls removed. 2 in tha front, 2 on each side and 4 across tha back. Don't have a clue 'bout tha "bolt" your talkin' 'bout. 2 in tha front and 4 across tha back or on short studs. 2 studs on each side or long but 2 different lengths, 1 being a little shorter than tha other. Hope your talkin' nuts removed and NOT bolts.............T
Don't forget tha shift linkage at tha anchor bracket.

Sounds like ya tearin' up tha exhaust adapter plate..............T
I just went and looked again and I see 2 on the front 2 on the sides 2 on the back unless you count the ones holing the exhaust plate on. The crack is on the starboard side right behind where the front half bolts on and theres no bolt visable from the outside I first thought it was a dowel pin but I looked close and its a bolt. Talking about the bolts I took them all loose just to be safe didnt work out.
Sounds like ya tearin' up tha exhaust adapter plate..............T
Ive been working on it all night ive had my feel of salt corrison. And now the torch is getting its feel.

Keep lookin' across tha back. There are "0" bolts, just tha 10 nuts holdin tha powerhead on. Maybe tha cowl mounting bracket is blockin' your line of site on tha back..........
Maybe your right something is defintly blocking my line of site but the back is loose and the only thing that seems to be holdin is the middle on both sides where the one side cracked beleive me I have loooked and looked and still dont see anything it looks like a hump I guess you would say like a bolt or a dowel pin would be but its not open on either side.

There is a short dowel pin towards tha front on tha right side. One on tha left towards tha back............
Im fixing to go too sleep I have been saying that for awile but I just keep going back looking for those studs. What do ou think about the crack i know you havent seen it but are they repairable in that area? Was thinking of Jbweld have had some good luck with it on this type of metal. Now would be a good time to do it as its all still in place and can be pulled down tight.

Really need a picture. Not a big fan of JB on a block, specially if its broke where I think it is.........
I was just looking at a picture of a 2.4 and im pretty sure ive got all the nuts off being that the longer ones reach threw the exhaust plate I assume do you think they where stuck bad enough to crack the block from the looks of it the long ones in the middle are the ones that broke. Thats one reason I said fk the mid I wanted too get that powerhead off and see if that crack got in the water jacket or not I'll have too see which way to go once I get it off and judge the damage dont know anybody aroud here that welds that kind of stuff up.

I have had them so bad that i have had to cut the studs by drilling thru the studs at 90 degrees from the outside of the mid. Be careful not to go thru the whole housing or it is not reusable with out welding it, but in your case I would not worry.
Trying to judge where to drill so that you hit the stud square on is the difficult part. Sometimes find the salt will just not let go and this is the only solution, or just melt the whole mid away with a cutting torch, but that is extreme
Allright I got them out and have some pics. You woul d have to be a spot on welder to weld this pot metal mess back together give me yalls opinions Im thinking jb weld or something better grind it down and let it go.
Now please help me so I can get back to these. Oh yea I ended up literly cutting both of those long studs out of the mid It was already tore all to hell anyway at that point.
