2007 Skater 30/308, raised deck, T/300XS. Spent tons of dial-in time, by myself (DKOR Racing), Page Racing, JT at TNT, and now back to myself.

Did not start out this way, but I am turning in now, and have been for about 6 months. I have pages and pages of the initital build and good accurate performance data over at OSO, detailing most of the changes. Also tons of pictures.

Also lots of pictures and a few videos at my web site www.dkorinc.homestead.com (http://www.dkorinc.homestead.com)

Yes, i know, I have been following your Skater since the beginning. I PM you about six weeks ago on your rigging. I just brought mine home from Skater two weeks ago.

Opps, I did not look at you screen name carefully. Of course I remember who you are. You have alot of nice stuff in your shop to rig with.

If you need anything, just call my office, I sent the number back on 3/3/08 in the PM on OSO.

Here are some of the initial test results.
2007 30/308 Skater, Raised Deck, T/300XS

Merc 3 blade cleaver, 15x32, labbed
Throttle-Up 5 blade, CNC, 15x30

Fri July 4, Charlotte Harbor, FL

*****************************************************************
With the 3 blades, you can easily run the RPM to 5000, cavitate like crazy, and then bite and drop back down to 3500 or so, as the boat rolls over on to plane, with a substantial amount of vibration. It is possible to feather the throttle, and roll the boat on to plane without the wild cavitation, but takes some time.
with the 5 blade, you can easily run the RPM to 4000, less cavitation, bites and backs down to 3000 or so, and the boat rolls over on to plane, fairly smooth. It is almost simple to feather the throttle, and to roll the boat on to plane with barely any cavitation.
*****************************************************************
With the 3 blades, the boat begins to porpoise at 55mph abs stop around 68mph
with the 5 blades, the boat begins to porpoise at 50mph and stops about 63mph.
*****************************************************************
With the 3 blades, the boat has very good acceleration
with the 5 blades, the acceleration from 60 to 80 and again from 60 to mid 90s, mind numbing. The 2 of us in the boat, we amazed by the increase in acceleration over the 3 blades, the boat just accelerated wildly.
*****************************************************************
With the 3 blades, the fasted run ever, as on 12/1/07, in the cool of winter (low 80s, no humidity) 6156rpm / 102.5mph. Now in the heat and humidity, the boat is consistently 1 – 2.5 mph.
with the 5 blades, the boat ran from 60 to 96.3 like lightning, with more throttle and RPM left, but a guardian mode, shut us down. Nothing serious, but will take some time to work through, so no WOT data this time out. *****************************************************************
With the 3 blades, I have averaged 2.39mpg over the last 10 times out
with the 5 blades, I averaged 2.58 over the 22 miles of testing. *****************************************************************
Here is some selected data:

*************3 blade*************
RPM MPH Slip MPH
3445 43.6 30.16 2.37
4405 64.8 18.22 2.32
4879 77.9 11.88

*************5 blade*************
RPM MPH Slip MPG
3600 50 20.8
4285 65.3 13.1 2.83
4915 80.1 7.1 2.58

These pictures were taken from the Skater during a trip on Sat July 5. We are in the Gulf, just off of North Captiva Islande, where Hurricane Charley ripped a new pass back in 2004. You can see the ICW, across the sand that has been gradually returning.

Nice to have you over here. I am interested in your results with the 5 blades. If the 5 blades give you better top end numbers I am sold. I see your slip is really low at 80 mph. I wonder how that will effect acceleration, normally slipping the props until WOT helps with acceleration. I see you are already locked up pretty tight at 80. Good stuff man. I appreciate all the detail you have listed with your results and setup!!

Hi ! Nice tread. I can understand your feelings about those beautiful propellers. I bought just a week ago 2x 33x15" for my Motion 25 2x 250xs
A year ago I sent money to a guy that never sent the goods so I was a bit worried when I did it again . When I opened the boxes with the propellers I bought from David Hundley over at OSO I could almost not belive my eyes. The 2 labbed props is one of the most beautiful props I have ever seen.......

Someone down here that I know had a 30 Motion, sold it, and went out and purchased another 30. They love it.

Motion makes a great boat, and from what I can see, your looks beautiful.

The gps/trip-log looks looks way cool in metric. 150km/h thats about 96mph, fast boat!

Working with a few of the offshore racers one of them with a 30ft race skater we have found with all the boat's that in race condition the 4 bld's and 5bld's are more consistent around the course and accelerate much better due to staying hooked up and carrying the boat better, but in the smoother water and all out top end the 3bld's were always faster. So it depends on what you are looking for and the conditions you run in. Like in any racing the best handling car, boat, consistency is fastest way around the course. On my 24 skater a set of 4bld's felt better and accelerated better but they were 3mph slower on top end. On the smaller boats like stv, mirage, ect that are running well over 100mph anything more than 3bld's add to much tail lift at high speeds. Just some info we have found. Rich

He he ! Thanks appsyscons ! The speed i got where 158 km/h thats 99mph ...1 F.....mile from 100 ;-) I wanted to go 100 mph with this boat, close as you can get I suppose  The needle on the Livorsi GPS are where top speed is stored , just checking that it was right with a Garmin car navigation. Thanks leading edge , good information . I have 2x 30x14,5x4 on when I run the 260s and lost 5mph compared to 32X14,5x3 Merc cleavers, but it was so stable and probably fast for racing but boring and to little bow lift to air it out properly. Could sell them if someone are interested they are for small shaft. Leading edge , is it possible to change the center to fit the big shafts ?
Thanks Espen

Beautiful props and boats. Hey I am kind of going through my 25' Motion. I have a pair of new 300xs. I am stripping out many of the analog harness' in favor of smartcraft. Any have experience. I would be interested in pitfalls during installation. I have loosely connected the smartcraft harness' just to check everything out. When I turn on the smartcrarft key switch I get the horn but the engine doesn't turn over. I have no neutral safety switch and my battery may have been low.

Anyway suggestions would be appreciated. I also have a pair of 15x34 mercury lab cleavers. Can't wait for spring to get here.

I to have followed your post on OSO. I just got my 28 Skater in the water and am running 34" 4 Blade Dewalds. Have not had any top end test time yet as the motors are not broken in yet and the weather is not cooperating. Would love to know how they work out and share some data with you on mine. I know your boat is a 30 but who knows.
Who did the props you have?

Who did the props you have?

I had tested quite a few props from different manufacturers, some 3 blade, some 4 blade and some 5 blade. All were over hub, cleavers. Various changes to set up were also tested, prop shaft height, toe, and rotation direction.

In every aspect of the testing; getting on plane, vibration, acceleration, handling, mid range speed, top end speed, fuel economy, dependability, and repeatable top end speed the Throttle-Up 4 blade, over hub, cleavers, performed the best of the bunch, and unlike my MR props, the TU props do not throw blades.

With the exception of handling these were not subjective tests. We recorded quantitative data, like RPMs, water pressure, water temp, fuel flow, GPS MPH, and fuel consumption from the Smart Craft Race Edition SC5000 system. We also recorded, ambient air temperature, humidity, ambient water temperature, and sea conditions.

With respect to top end speed, I have 2 runs where the MPH on the MR 3 blade props, were the 2 highest speeds the boat has ever gone. They were in winter when it was 70s and no humidity, I did hot have the TU 4B props, at the time, and I am talking about 1/10s of MPH. Since then, I have not been able to repeat those speeds, with any props, including the MR 3B props. To be fair to MR, they do get credit for the fastest run to date.

Bottom line, the only props that go on my Skater, for the last year or so, are Throttle-UP 4 blade, over hub, cleavers.

In the most recent Ft. Myers Offshore run, We ran 114.7 miles, burned 48.7 gallons of 93 octane. That's 2.335 MPG and we were not dogging it, we were first to reach the lunch stop.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

appsyscons,

Thanks for sharing all your info. I will let you know how the Dewalds work. I know there is a guy Shawn with a 24 Skater running them and from what I have read they worked really well.

In the next week or two I hope to get some good runs in. I may also be getting a set of 33" pitch 5 blade Herrings to try.
