I'm haveing lefty lower issues no surprise there......I was looking thru my old junk parts and was woundering if the left and right gear cases ( just the case ) is the same???? It looks like the only diff. is the front bearing....the reason I ask is when I get done with this rebuild I think I may have enough parts ( minus bearings and a carier nut ) to make a junk spare??? but the other case I have is a righty??

thanx
Jeff

Cases are the same on the 3.0. Major diff are the Gears, and propshaft.

Example....I have a lefty case with righty gears.

my bad I'm dealing with 2.4/2.5 lowers
and like I said just the case....it only appears that the front bearing is a roller in a lefty VS a tapered bearing in the righty....and yes the prop shaft and the bearing carrier assemblies.....but the cases look the same???

thanx though.....

cases for functional purposes are the same, the only difference may be skeg configuration.

thanx I may do a go ahead then with the left (no pun intended) over parts...it seems like I have had isues with lefties and need a spare.......the one I have out being put together now is one I had built less than 2 years ago.....and alot of the inside parts are used up even though I change lube regularly ( about every weekend or 5 to 10 hours) and my baot doesn't get half the beating most others get???

The cases are identical. There are some internal differences like the carrier and Shaft. The forward and reverse gears are reversed. Try this site for some education. www.bammarine.com (http://www.bammarine.com).

Click on Marcury Parts, Click On Parts with pictures. High Performance or Mercury/Mariner. Find your engine, click it, click your serial number range and go to any section you choose. It gives pictures, parts, Part Numbers and prices.

cases are the same there is a race / adapter glued in the forward end that converts the conical bearing to a flat bearing its set in with green loctite, a little heat will cause it to turn loose it can then be made a rh case. As for rh and left hand gears being swapped ive not been able to accomplish that they are the same numbers but they also have some thrust washer issues involved or the lack of a thrust washer running surface on some of the gears , i do know there were several differant styles of lh gears in the early days some were actually rh stuff but i have zero experience with these so i dont know the answers but since ive started building these things ive learned two things:eek: left hand and 3.0 cases are not my cup of tea

Tex I owe you a big thanx...I quit while I still had a good case to work with I found a guy about 50 miles south of me who said he could put it back togehter...I dropped it off yesterday...funny thing I brought my stand down set it on the floor and went back to the car to get the lower before i put in in the stand another guy came over said "we don't see many of those....." I figured I throw him the curve ball and tell him it was a lefty......he laughed and said " no big deal I'm running one on my Hydro stream"...I told him about the sight and i'm sure he's going to be checking it out...I hoe his work is good and prices are fair we will see if they are I'll pass the good news to other local guys

has a spacer/shim just in front of the carrier which when all the gears etc are out will still be there. It almost looks like part of the housing but you will need it to put in the R/H case
I just finished a conversion but have yet to run it up.
Hope I got it right
