I had been previously running an old evinrude 125 (1971 model) and my tach worked fine set at 4 pulses.

I have since put a '85 evinrude 235 on my boat, and the tach just seems to stay at 1000 rpms even when I rev it up.

I tried switching the pulse settings, but there was little difference. Seems to stay around 1000 and when I rev the motor really high, it barley moves up.

I always thought the evinrudes could use the same tach. Am I dooing something wrong, or maby my tach went bad?

I think it should be 12 pulses.

The ignition on the 125 is differenet and thus required a different tack,

well, 12 pulses might explain my problem then. My tach dosent go up to 12. I think it goes 2,4,6,8//

Too bad for me that I cannot run an automotive tach. There are a lot of different styles.

I just checked my tach. It actually only has settings for 1,2,3,4,6 pulses.

Is there a module or way to run an automotive tach?

NICE. One of the best in the World with OMC's tries to help you (and gives you the correct info) and that's your response?
And people wonder why this forum has lost SO many knowledgeable members. Good job.

I didn't even see the misspelling until you brought it to my attention. I can't spell worth a d@^ myself, so I don't pick on others. Really doesn't serve any purpose, especially when you are asking for help and receive it from someone who knows and will not lead you wrong, like I've seen others do.
lokinutz is correct.

You need to have a 9 volt signal on the grey wire for a late model tack to work correctly. The 235 is a 12 pulse engine as mentioned, the tack for your old 125 (if it had the right one) is not compatible with the 235

Racer.
Thanks for the information.

I really hope you didnt take any offense to my humor. I really dont care much about spelling. It dosent mean I'm not educated, and my spelling lacks at times. I really hope this site is dedicated to more than some folks sniping others for their spelling. Theres a good site for that kind of thing called craigsxxxx..

I hope folks will keep it on a sport level, not a grammar lesson.

I will look for a tach that will fit my application. Its a shame that my old 125 evinrude tach dosent work since its face matched the face of my other instruments.

Ill check overtons catalog, or ebay for a tach I can use to fit the 12 poles.

Thanks for your time. I consider this board a valuable resource for the sport.
John.
