mercury lightweight flywheel question

hey guys i need some help i have a bone stock 1988 mercury 2.4 200, I was looking to put a light weight flywheel on there. Would i need to change anything, some one told me that i would need to change the stator.

also what do i gain by doing this?

If U have the small flexplate flywheel, then change nuthing...gain nuthing!!!

If U have the 40 amp, big flywheel, change the stator and add rectifier...
