I have a lightweight kevlar 18ft6 Aussie Bullet vee hull with a 225 3l EFI merc (2002 model). For waterskiing, I run a 23" trophy plus which works well out of the hole.

The problem is, I can hit the rev limit with about half throttle. The rev limit seems to be ~5800RPM. What can I safely rev the engine to? What is the best way to increase it?

The boat will run 68mph on the cutout, with a few more revs, I reckon it can do mid 70s mph and still pull two slalom skiers out of the hole.

Contact http://www.simonmotorsports.com I understand he's able to get into the new (and old) style ECU's and raise the limiter.

Yep, the older ones had a 6100 limit.

When the compression went up in 98 or so they dropped the limit to 5800.

wasn't there one of the 250hp offshore motors that had a good box, with a limiter around 6500rpm?

turning it much over 6200 and it will fall on it's face.
