So there is a fellow up the river that was running a newer Superboat with a 225 E-Tech.
This year he re-rigged to a Merc 300XS. I hear he is claiming 100 mph.
Opinions?

Superboat 21? Sure, it's possible.

guarantee,Fly's Stratos is just out of break-in mode and with a full tankof gas,my 215 lbs.,and not dialed in yet did 90 to the dam at the Romp today!Must have run close to a 100 miles yesterday and maybe burned 15 gal. of gas!A great engine, although it's sound decibels are a toss up between an air compressor and a sewing machine!

Defantly possible, must be light. There is a lightweight with a 300x that goes 103.
Herbs went 107

2.7 went kaboom after hitting 99.7,300XS isn't dialed in yet but should be equal to the 2.7,even faster, and boy, does it sip fuel!!
was the etec still under warranty?

Yeah same here. He's been mighty quiet lately as well. Think I remember seeing him hint a few months back (winter) about some mystery package etc. ect. in the works. Maybe flink'em will chime in? :)

I know there is an Intimidator with a 300X on this forum that runs 100 plus.
I just don't see it with this boat and a 300XS. The new style Superboats appear much larger then the old 21's.
I've seen this guy running with the 225 E-tec. I don't think he ever did more than 70. There's a world of difference between 70 and 100 and I don't think 75 horsepower is going to do it in this application.

He's running a sportmaster with a 27 tempest. With that combo 100 would take about 7000 rpms. Doesn't 300xs turn max 6100. It does look mean on the back of that superboat.

Back in the late 80's my friend had a blue 21 Superboat with a white Johnson V8 and it looked great. Sounded good with the 20" snout opened exhaust too.
I just bought my second 300XS. The first one was on a 20' Bullet Bassboat that weighed 1000# with a blueprinted bottom. It would run 103 with just me turning a 32 ET at 6300. This new motor is not broken in yet because I just got it Friday last week. Merc built me a Pro ET in a 34 pitch that I will be playing with as soon as the motor has a few hours on it. My new boat is the 21' 10" Bullet Bassboat. I expect to possibly see 100 with it but it won't be "easy". Going 100 in a vee bottom is never "easy."
I did get to drive a boat with a new eTec 225 two weeks ago. There is no comparison between the two. The eTec may compete with a Pro XS225 but I doubt it will even run with that because of the LU options Merc offers. OMC offers one gearcase.
BTW, the rev limiter on the new 300XS is 6400.

Her we are talking about smaller boats with outboards and trying to reach 100 and hold it thier. Then Catboy comes along and mentions Fountain. Well I guess if you spend between 200 and 600k for a boat with two giant car motors in it you should expect a 100. By the way dont most of those boats come with huge K planes to balance them.:) By the way anyone can drive a cat - Even me!!! Oh I can crash em too.!! But a small v bottom that takes a driver - a real driver, I'm learnin to drive the dog!!! One fast dog!!:eek:

BRP offers three cases right now....Lightning L1 with 1.86 gears, Lightning L2 with lowered water pickups, 3 choices on intake grates, and 1.71 gearing, and the Magnum case with 1.86 gearing.

And none of them hold a candle to the 1.62:1 Sporty.....

Built by Mercury Racing....
Not going to argue this one, the Etec was designed for reliability and ease of maintenance for center consoles, offshore rigs, and family runabouts. It did make it's way into the bassboat market and has held it's own. For all out performance, though, you almost have to go Merc.

I don't want to argue, I owned a 200hp 60 degree E-Tec. Good motors, just not a Merc.....
